🌟 Why Platelet Donations Matter More Than You Might Think 🌟 Did you know that one platelet donation can be the difference between life and death for someone fighting cancer, undergoing surgery, or suffering a traumatic injury? Unlike regular blood donations, platelets are unique – they’re essential for blood clotting, and for some patients, they’re critical to survival. Here’s the thing: platelets only last about five days, which means hospitals are always in need. With such a short shelf life, our healthcare system relies on constant donations to keep the supply up. And because the need is so immediate, a single donation can make an instant difference in someone’s life. 💉❤️ As someone who just donated platelets at The Blood Center I can tell you firsthand – it’s easy, rewarding, and truly life-changing. If you’ve got an hour to spare and want to make an impact you can literally feel, consider making an appointment. Every drop counts, but platelets? They’re pure gold. 🏆 Join me in making a difference – give platelets, save lives. #BloodDonation #PlateletDonation #SaveLives #GiveBack

Be a hero, donate blood! Every blood donor is a hero. One generous donation can save multiple lives. If you have never donated blood before, or if it has been a while, now is a perfect time to roll up your sleeve. Every few seconds, someone needs blood. Blood is needed every day of the year. Blood is essential for emergencies, such as when someone experiences a severe injury in a car accident. It is also needed daily for various medical procedures, including cancer treatment, surgery and blood transfusions. By donating blood regularly, you can help ensure that blood is available when needed. Donating blood as the gift of life is free, heartfelt and never goes out of style! #donate #donateblood #donatebloodandsavelives #sharethelove #sanquin Sanquin

The business of BLOOD SUPPLY is foundational to modern medicine and 99% of organizations ensuring our blood supply are NON-PROFIT. Millions of transfusions* occur yearly because individuals DONATE part of their body. You may have seen or heard stories about transplant chains, also known as paired donations. This is when a living donor is not a match for a specific recipient but still agrees to donate, setting off a chain reaction of transplants. Recently, surgical teams completed their first paired liver transplant. But you might be asking yourself, if a person only has one liver, how can you be a living donor to start this chain? Dr. Timucin Taner, transplant surgeon, explains how it works #organdonation #livertransplant #transplantchain #livingdonors

PLEASE READ!! Here are some real-life experiences that donating blood impacted my life. Gino, my 3-year-old nephew, is fighting Neuroblastoma, a rare aggressive cancer. He is winning his battle with the help of transfusions! In addition, my sister-in-law who had a heart transplant, and my husband who recently had emergency surgery, both received multiple transfusions. I never knew the importance of donating blood until it impacted the people I love! Donating blood is one of the most profound acts of kindness a person can offer. Your single donation can save up to three lives! It has helped save three people I love! Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. Currently, there is an alarming shortage of blood. The need for blood is constant, but the supply depends on the generosity of people like you. Blood cannot be manufactured; it can only come from volunteers who understand the power of giving. It’s a small act, but its impact is immeasurable. Spotlight on the Life-Changing Impact of Eye and Tissue Donation This week, we’re shining a light on the incredible impact of eye and tissue donation. By becoming a donor, you have the power to give someone the precious gift of sight or support groundbreaking vision research that could benefit countless others. Every day, the dedicated team at the Lions Eye Donation Service (LEDS) travel across Victoria to recover donor eye tissue, which is then prepared for potentially sight-saving surgeries. It's not just about the medical procedure—it's about the lives transformed by these generous donations. Last year alone, 2,486 Australians received the gift of sight through corneal transplants. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the donors and their families who made this life-changing gift possible. People like Gavin De Loree a Tissue Coordinator at LEDS with a rich background in critical care and organ donation coordination, work closely with families to navigate the sensitive decisions around eye and tissue donation. “It’s about having the empathy to pick up on subtle cues and knowing when to give families some time,” says Gavin, reflecting the compassion and commitment that guides every step of this process. By choosing to donate, you are not only giving the gift of sight but also enabling advances in medical research that can lead to new treatments and hope for the future. If you're considering becoming a donor and want to learn more, LEDS provides a helpful guide on how to get involved. https://lnkd.in/gr3yj3K4 Help us raise awareness during DonateLife Eye and Tissue Spotlight Week by sharing this post and starting the conversation. Together, we can make a lasting impact. #DonateLife #EyeandTissueDonation #EyeDonation #OrganDonation #MedicalResearch

Today marks EIGHT years since I donated bone marrow. In honor of this anniversary, here are 8 things I want you to know about donating bone marrow: 1️⃣ I was never in any pain. 2️⃣ Bone marrow and the red blood cells associated grow back in two weeks. I ran a marathon 23 days after my surgery, and completed an Ironman later that year. 3️⃣ Anyone ages 18-40 can donate, and there's an acute need for donations from people of color. 4️⃣ Not all bone marrow donation requires surgery, and for those that do, you can choose general or local anesthesia. 5️⃣ Bone marrow donation does not cost the donor anything, nor does the donor earn anything. 6️⃣ The recipient of my procedure is a family member who is fully recovered now, but about 70 percent of procedures are with unrelated patients. 7️⃣ The most shocking thing I did not know before the procedure is, if successful, it literally cures the cancer of the recipient as the donor bone marrow replaces the recipient's immune system. 8️⃣ I would do it again. There are very few occasions in life where regular humans can save another life. I highly recommend everyone learn more and consider joining the registry at Be The Match.
