🌍 Celebrating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024 🌍 Today, we join the global community in commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This year's theme, "Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality," reminds us of the importance of creating a world where everyone, regardless of their abilities, can thrive. Disability inclusion is not just about accessibility; it’s about recognising the unique strengths and contributions of every individual. By fostering an environment of support and understanding, we can help break down barriers that prevent full participation in society. Let us commit to: 1. Advocacy: Raise our voices for policies that promote inclusivity and equal opportunities for all. 2. Education: Increase awareness and understanding of disability issues to cultivate empathy and support. 3. Collaboration: Work together with persons disabled by society to create solutions that meet their needs and aspirations. As we celebrate today, let’s remember that empowering every individual enriches our communities and creates a brighter future for everyone. Together, we can build a more inclusive world. The future is Accessible!

Happy International Day of People with Disabilities! Hope to see our #AbilitiesExpo fam in Texas and Oklahoma at the Dallas Expo this weekend! [ID: White heading text on a purple background with a light purple border reads "Disabled people are the experts on disability." At the top, small white text reads "International Day of People With Disabilities" surrounded by a white line. The LCI logo is in the bottom right corner.] #repost @lavantconsulting —— Disabled people are the experts on disability — which is why the 2024 International Day of People with Disabilities theme is “Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.” First established in 1992, the United Nations recognizes #IDPWD annually as a time to celebrate, learn, and act. Today, organizations should be looking for more ways to invite people with disabilities in as leaders as they strive for further equity.

Today Dec 3 is UN International Day of Persons with Disabilities https://lnkd.in/gXy73B-k In 1992 the first International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) was observed around the world. It followed the signing of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) with 164 signatories, including Canada. Little known fact for those of us that work here in the BC public service according to international law a convention is is more binding than a declaration, I found that interesting in my research. Every year there is a new theme presented by the UN, this years theme is: "Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future." Please share the actions/choices you are making around accessibility and inclusion of people with disabilities, and/or, what IDPD and maybe some of the things you have learned around here, you are committing to going forward?? #IDPD #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #DisabilityInclusion #DisabilityRights #InclusionMatters #Accessibility #DisabilityAwareness
