I woke up this morning full of excitement, heading into #FiraBarcelona as gates opened to #SCEWC2024 The day was packed with action, lots of impressive projects and content. For now, check out this video for a glimpse, and I’ll share my key take aways soon. Here we go… The highlights of the day was a guided tour of the Expo hall for our delegation. And that’s where I got my top-3 takeaways from #SCEWC24 Day-1: 1. Smart Mobility: Digital Madrid showcased their journey of transitioning an ageing fleet to autonomous vehicles. I got to experience driving an old bus in a simulator (pic in comments below), and then sitting in a autonomous vehicle, kind of two opposite things together. 2. Smart Healthcare: I was blown away by the leading edge work done on Smart Communities by Aramco, where they showcased their smart cities platform called A’amer and a smart healthcare solution, which was about transitioning certain elements of healthcare from hospital to home. 3. AI in smart cities - some wonderful examples of successful implementation of Computer Vision at Dell Technologies + NVIDIA showcase, and saw in action the “GenAI at the edge” through wearables using on-device LLM to assist frontline workers in asset management with rapid troubleshooting capability.

I started my cyber journey in identity and access management, focusing on centralizing and managing identities and access. Today, while IdPs have successfully centralized IAM infrastructure management, they've also created a centralized attack surface. With rising identity-based attacks, the focus has shifted to identity as infrastructure security in cloud and hybrid environments. Ensuring legitimate identities and normal activities requires stitching together your IdP with all your cloud environments. IdPs alone aren't enough—Okta's CEO admitted to breaches, stating, “We’re not perfect by any means.” I look forward to discussing this shift and Permiso's approach to addressing the challenges of detecting and responding to identity-based attacks at our booth or wherever you want to meet in Vegas!
