Excited to share insights from working with dedicated teams from across the U.S. who implemented our Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality funded toolkits to engage patients and family members as partners in delivering safe care! Our tools are “deceptively simple” and have been adapted for use in every care setting, including community health! #patientsafey #nothingaboutuswithoutus #diagnosis

ICYMI, check out this recording of the discussion with Aurora GrantWingate Rishi Manchanda MD MPH Olusimbo Ige, Phillip Cooper Dave A. Chokshi, MDBechara Choucair Alliance of Community Health Plans (ACHP)American Hospital Association and I. https://lnkd.in/esGnzgrH Key takeaways: 1. The way we spend money in US healthcare is inversely proportional to the value of our dollar. Late stage clinical care >>>>>>SDOH which has the largest effect on health outcomes. 2. We need CHWs to help us rebalance the equation. They are trustworthy people with lived expertise of the challenges they help to solve. CHWs can help to transfer power from healthcare and public health to the communities they serve. 3. CHWs have been proven in multiple RCTs to improve health and quality of care while returning $2.50 for every dollar spent. So WHY are there only 80K CHWs in the entire US right now?! C'mon people! 4. In 2024 CMS launched the first ever CHW Medicare reimbursement code, and many Medicaid agencies are following suit. With the dollars coming, we need to protect the authentic identity of CHWs and the quality of the person-centered services they provide. 5. CHWs can do magic, but they need to be set up for success: orgs need to hire the right people, provide fair compensation, career ladders, easy to use technology and supportive supervision. Kudos to Common Health Coalition and all of its founding members for zeroing in on this critical workforce!!
Today we launched our inaugural Common Health Challenge on Community Health Workers — please share and spread the word! Website: https://lnkd.in/eYDFHvqa Press release: https://lnkd.in/eD_NUyKM Common Health Coalition Chelsea Cipriano

Daniel Dawes, congratulations and strong work! I believe not spoken of enough is the US economic consequence of health inequity. Moreover, “The Economic Burden of Health Inequity.” Fundamental economics reveals “opportunity cost.” Contextually, overcoming health inequity to achieve health equity markedly improves healthcare economics notwithstanding benefits of patient outcomes and arguably the clinician experience, e.g., addressing the issue of minority patient - clinician trust… Evidence suggest the US health equity economic benefit to the US economy, potentially, is greater than $500B per annual. Extrapolated across the US economy over a relative short period of time health equity may present as more than a trillion dollars in cost avoidance or economic burden. In the final analysis health equity, given the rippling affect of economics, will benefit all Americans including economically affluent populations whom tend to be outliers of poor health outcomes compared to greater afflicted women and minority populations. Keep moving! Crush it! Ref: https://lnkd.in/e4hXpk5e
