Yesterday we - the Virtual Lean Book Club - discussed the first 3 chapters of Wiring the Winning Organization. A key takeaway for me was that the book provides us with an easy to apply common language. Suddenly we were all talking about 'problems at layer 3'. From my book notes: Organizations are socio-technical systems: people engaging technology to accomplish collaborative problem solving. Layer 1 (tech): technical objects being worked on Layer 2 (tech): Tools and instrumentation Layer 3 (socio): the social circuitry for flow of ideas and information - overlay of processes, procedures, norms/policies, and routines by which individual efforts are expressed and integrated through collaboration toward a common purpose. Looking forward to reading the next chapters about Slowification, Simplification, and Amplification!
