Today is SUDEP Action Day – a critical reminder of the importance of raising awareness about the sudden, unexpected loss that epilepsy can bring. The weight of living with the impact of #SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) is incomprehensible, often leaving families with more questions than answers. We were honored to partner with Tom Stanton with The Danny Did Foundation and Karan Brar at #CameronBoyceFoundation on our latest podcast discussing this important topic. Thank you for the authentic conversation and the work you both do in this space. By working together, understanding risks, and sharing resources such as the SUDEP Toolkit developed in partnership with the Child Neurology Foundation, the American Epilepsy Society, The Danny Did Foundation, and the Epilepsy Foundation, in addition to other experts with support from UCB, we can continue to bring attention to this silent risk and improve the lives of those living with #epilepsy or a rare epilepsy syndrome such as #dravet and #lennoxgastaut. 💜💜Spotlight on Ashley: A Resilient Epilepsy Warrior We continue our Epilepsy Awareness Month spotlights with Ashley, one of the strongest epilepsy warriors in our support group. Diagnosed in childhood, Ashley has faced countless treatments and surgeries in her journey to control her seizures, demonstrating incredible strength and perseverance every step of the way. Here’s what Epilepsy Awareness Month means to Ashley, in her own words: _"Epilepsy Awareness Month means to me that people need to pay more attention to it. I always try to post something on my Instagram, but I didn’t this month because everything has felt off or weird. Recently, I went to my appointment at Duke, and afterward, I had to get labs done. Coincidentally, the woman who took my blood shared that her son has epilepsy. I told her my story and how she could stop being worried. Long story short, she gave me a hug and said I made her day. That moment made me feel like I did something good for epilepsy. She made my day, too, with how easily the conversation flowed and how she made me laugh. That’s what Epilepsy Awareness Month meant to me this year: It doesn’t have to be a doctor to help someone. You, as someone living with epilepsy, can make a difference too!" 💜_ Thank you, Ashley, for reminding us that small moments of connection can make the biggest impact. Let’s keep breaking stigmas and spreading understanding, one story at a time. #EpilepsyAwarenessMonth #EpilepsyWarrior #AshleyStrong #AdvocacyThroughConnection #EpilepsyReach

I'm entering the world of scientific writing and am excited to announce that my first article is available on AcademicMemories.com, a grad-student run blog focusing on giving undergraduates and grad students the chance to write scientific articles and publish them, while gaining invaluable experience conveying scientific information to a broader public audience. If you'd like to read my writing, this article focuses on the link between epilepsy and eating disorders. Let me know what you think!
Epilepsy and eating disorders (EDs) are two very distinct disorders, but some recent neuroscience insinuates there could be a correlation between the two. Learn more about the evidence showing correspondence between seizure disorders and EDs in this article. Written by Ethan Messier #neuroscience #scicomm https://lnkd.in/gauiKqei

As Epilepsy Awareness Month continues, we’re spotlighting the different types of seizures to help build awareness and understanding of this complex condition. Did you know that seizures are categorized into three major groups? They include: Focal Onset - Starting in one area of the brain, potentially affecting consciousness or physical movements. Generalized Onset - Affecting both sides of the brain from the beginning, often causing changes in awareness and motor skills. Unknown Onset - When the beginning of the seizure isn’t witnessed or identified. Understanding these differences is key to improving treatment and support for those living with epilepsy. Let’s raise awareness together! #EpilepsyAwarenessMonth #KnowEpilepsy

Biophilic Design & Animal Husbandry show effectiveness in treating Alzheimer’s & Autism symptoms. I wrote this article after many years of working under the mentorship of brilliant neurologists and psychologists; under their tutelage, and during the course of my dissertation research and fellowships, all whilst finding a love and passion for increasing my knowledge about autism spectrum disorder, neurodivergency in general and Alzheimer’s dementia, I discovered that Aquatic therapy was really remarkable in terms of decreasing neurodivergent symptomatology, and Dementia related behavioral and psychological symptom reduction. https://lnkd.in/gYaUN4R9 #neuropsychology #autism #adhd #childpsychology
