For how specific the habitat requirements are for many chameleon species, many species are quite adaptable and have actually become very successful invasives outside their native ranges. In fact, species from at least 6 genera are known to have established persistent introduced populations, including in Taiwan, Mauritius, Réunion, Kenya, South Africa, Florida, California, and Hawaii. Even much of the distribution of the two species found in Europe are thought to possibly be the result of translocations, some from early historical time periods. #InternationalChameleonDay #ShowYourColors #ChameleonDay2024 #ChameleonDay #ChameleonDayMay9

Did you know that to science, birds are apex species, and by conserving them, we inadvertently conserve a whole host of other species that are just as important as birds but may not have the same affinity with the public? East Africa remains the top birding destination where one can spot over 400 bird species: Let's go #birdingwitholuokos and share an intimate connection with our natural environment. #sustainabiltyatoluokos #oluokossignatureexperiences #GoBetterWithOluokos https://lnkd.in/eSn9V3zj

🇹🇷 Lake Salda in the Burdur province of Turkey has been recognized as one of the top 100 geological heritage sites by UNESCO, as part of a project led by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS). The lake is famous for its unique ecological diversity, with several endemic plant and animal species. It’s also an important habitat for a variety of bird species, all of which are part of the lake's fragile ecosystem that requires careful protection. 💧Spanning 4,370 hectares and reaching a depth of 196 meters, Lake Salda is one of the deepest lakes in Turkey. The sediment layers in the lake have recorded climate changes over the last millennium, offering valuable insights into historical climate patterns linked to solar variability. #TERRARealEstate #turkey #lifeinturkey #livinginturkey #visitturkey #saldalake

Exploring the lush forests of northwest India's Sub-Himalayan region, scientists uncover the secrets of woodpecker populations. The study reveals that unmanaged forests, rich in large trees and standing dead wood, host more abundant and diverse woodpecker communities. This highlights the crucial need to preserve undisturbed habitats for these charismatic birds.
