For how specific the habitat requirements are for many chameleon species, many species are quite adaptable and have actually become very successful invasives outside their native ranges. In fact, species from at least 6 genera are known to have established persistent introduced populations, including in Taiwan, Mauritius, Réunion, Kenya, South Africa, Florida, California, and Hawaii.
