When Amazon Go first launched, the tech enthusiast in me went crazy. The concept was groundbreaking, and I couldn't wait to experience it. Back then, it was just in Seattle, and I never got the chance despite visiting the US multiple times. Fast forward to today, they're more widespread, but I still haven't tried it. The other day, I passed by this store (the one I frequent) and wondered why. The store often appears empty, and it's hard to discern if it's even open. The lack of traditional cues – people, signage – creates an uninviting atmosphere. At least enough for people to hesitate. The only cue maybe is that the lights are on? This has led me to wonder if the focus on technological efficiency might inadvertently create a less inviting customer experience. Does the lack of human interaction make the concept less accessible? How does Amazon Design think about this? Random Advice You Shouldn’t Take or Know About… There are too many companies offering products that share the same features, you cannot win in such a market until you prioritise user experience, and get the right team where design leads actual advocate for users and understand how to measure their own matrics/design impact or even better hire product managers that have a design background and see how much impact they make.

As I sit here having an afternoon coffee, I can't help but reflect on one of the most important product principles that has stuck with me over the years. Make things simple. It sounds easy, right? But simple is hard. Apple famously leads with the notion that a core component of design simplicity was making products intuitively easy to use. But, in practice, every single decision that is made while building and scoping a product has a multitude of ramifications: Timeline, impact, resourcing, design, metrics, experimentation, marketing, and more. Things can get complicated, like, really fast. Especially as your team gets bigger with various stakeholders across organizations.
