The SR 0286-A49 from US 422 East to Rustic Lodge Road project (PennDOT District 10-0, White Township, Indiana County) included widening the roadway and improving seven signalized intersections along SR 0286 to improve capacity and safety through the corridor. Gibson-Thomas completed the roadway alternatives analysis and traffic analysis to determine the necessary configuration and length of turn lanes at each intersection, as well as the optimal signal timings and coordination along the corridor. The project also incorporated the addition of a new bike lane in each direction. The project team designed each intersection with brand new traffic signal equipment, including new signal supports, radar detection, and pedestrian accommodations such as push buttons and ADA-compliant curb ramps. The project is in a well-developed corridor right outside of Indiana, PA. A few design challenges included finding areas for stormwater management facilities since much of the corridor is already developed, as well as trying to minimize right-of-way impacts to residential properties, driveways, and parking lots that are close to the roadway. #PennDOT #IndianaPA #Roadway #SignalUpgrade
