Sky Logistic Reliance Secures Financing for Expansion of Port Said Terminal Shipping Arabia, September 6, 2024 — A consortium led by "Sky Logistic Reliance," specializing in seaport operations, has successfully secured EGP 500 million from Banque du Caire. This funding represents the first tranche of a loan aimed at supporting the construction of a multipurpose terminal at East Port Said Port, which boasts a total investment of $65 million. Sources within the consortium reveal that the total loan from Banque du Caire amounts to approximately EGP 1 billion. The initial tranche will be allocated towards expanding the fleet of superstructure equipment and machinery essential for the terminal’s operations. This facility, a collaboration with Reliance Group, spans a 900-meter berth and a 350,000 square meter back area designed to enhance the terminal’s capabilities. The terminal is poised to achieve an annual handling capacity of 8 million tons of goods. In preparation for its operational phase, the group plans to initiate a promotional campaign to introduce the terminal to shipping lines and international companies, highlighting its advanced facilities and strategic capabilities. The financial arrangement with Banque du Caire includes the disbursement of the second installment later this month, with the third and final installment scheduled for October. Recent updates from the terminal indicate significant activity, with a total of 70 vessels handled and 1 million tons of coal processed by the end of last month. By the end of August, the terminal had managed a total of 1.7 million tons of various goods. The equipped storage areas, currently at 45,000 square meters, are expected to expand to 150,000 square meters within the next three months. Additionally, the terminal has enhanced its infrastructure with the delivery of a Zhenhua 895 loading/unloading crane, two Zhenhua 880 cranes, two Zhenhua 830 storage units, and a new fleet of tractors for handling dry bulk, scrap, and general cargo. With these advancements, Sky Logistic Reliance aims to handle approximately 5 million tons by the year's end, demonstrating a robust capacity for growth and operational excellence. Alright, folks, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has flagged some major concerns over Aurizon’s plan to acquire @Flinders Logistics, a subsidiary of Flinders Port Holdings Pty Limited. What’s the Deal? Aurizon wants to buy Flinders Logistics and Pirie Bulk, which handle stevedoring and cargo services at Port Adelaide and Port Pirie. The ACCC is worried this could hurt competition, especially since Berth 29 at Port Adelaide is crucial for certain mining products. Key Issues: Competition Risk: If Aurizon controls Berth 29, it could limit access for other rail haulage providers and stevedores. Impact on Prices: This could lead to higher prices and lower service quality for bulk cargo customers, affecting industries crucial to the Australian economy. Shippers’ Perspective: Shippers are on edge, fearing that reduced competition might lead to skyrocketing costs and subpar service. “If Aurizon takes over, we could be looking at monopoly-like control over critical logistics services,” said a concerned shipper. Next Steps: Aurizon and Flinders Ports have until July 25, 2024, to respond to the ACCC’s concerns. A final decision will be made on September 26, 2024. #Logistics #Trucking #SupplyChain #Transport #Freight #InterstateTransport #RoadFreight #TransportServices #Linehaul #Procurement #3PL #Warehousing #Fleet #TruckingNews #cargo #Import #Export #OceanFreight #SeaFreight #AirFreight #Australia
