Back by popular demand, the fifth episode of "A Little Bit of Light Relief", which is now available to watch on YouTube. Way back, in the early days, in my first big role after Shell, I had the privilege of working for one of the most exceptional leaders (and CHROs) of my entire career (who to this day, remains an esteemed mentor and someone I will always seek counsel from when I really need it). One of the most powerful things Ian ever said to me, was that "Great leaders ask great questions", a sentiment I will never forget, and practice, consciously, to this day. Indeed, it was only this week that one of my C-Suite clients and I spent a good chunk of their hour and a half coaching session doing exactly that - practising how to present the completely "unpalatable" [delicately], by simply couching some of their more potent points of view as well-constructed questions. Why? Because the great things about questions, is that they command a response, whereas statements don’t, and therefore, are often received much more explosively. Amidst everything society is contending with right now, I can't help but think that a gentle reminder - to all leaders - to be mindful of the power (and impact) of asking great questions. Particularly if you’re intending to make your people feel seen, recognised and appreciated. Who was it who said we have two ears and one mouth for a reason? Something else I am extremely conscious of as a senior leader (and could be better at). Enjoy, and as always, a big shout out to super duper co-hosts Jeanette Ramsden and Kelly York at The Curve Group. #Humanresources #Leadership #ALittleBitOfLightRelief #PowerfulQuestions #HRCommunity

Ok, I know this blog is from a corporate negotiation skills perspective but the message on the use of silence as a powerful tool in your active listening box is as important for any kind of conversation around emotional health and suicide. I think we could all do with a gentle reminder on the power of shutting up and really listening.
New Blog post on the benefits of silence. Are you comfortable with it? #negotiation #negotiationskills #negotiationstrategy

Successful business owners and leaders do this … Do you? 💜Notice where you are denying parts of you to have peace and ease. When you do you then get to choose whether to continue or not, knowing that it is not sustainable or satisfying. 💃Dance to your own beat – when you dance to the rhythm of your own heart you give others permission to do likewise.
