While celebrating Earth Day here at Stratus Firm, I came across this article written by Rodney Hart, Vice President, Events at RainFocus, as it truly grabbed my attention in a meaningful way. It dives deep into the vital role environmental consciousness plays in events, highlighting how crucial they are for fostering business relationships and ensuring unforgettable customer experiences. But here's the kicker: while strides have been made to lessen environmental footprints, there's a whole world of opportunity beyond the basics, like just going paperless. Imagine harnessing cutting-edge tech like AI to not only track but slash environmental impact as well as repurposing event designs and materials, teaming up with eco-friendly partners and venues, and even embracing hybrid event formats (again)… these bold moves don't just shrink waste—they supercharge the event experience, all while championing sustainability. #event #sustainability #eventprofs #eventproducer #events #earthday

For today’s #carboncleanse, let’s talk about #trends. I’m often asked – “what are the current trends in #sustainability?” It always makes me pause. A trend is defined as: 1️⃣ A general direction in which something is developing or changing; general movement; a line of development. 2️⃣ A current style or preference. When I think of trends, I associate with the first definition above. However, I think for the events industry, most associate trend with the second definition. With #events, we are constantly looking for something new to entice our stakeholders and audience. We can’t repeat anything. So, in marches sustainability and now it becomes a trend. It should be our new direction, but instead it’s often talked about as the “current style” or “new enticing” element for attendees. Today’s post is not about the “new” trendy sustainability item to add to your list. It’s about the new direction you need to go. #Strategy. For years, sustainable initiatives implemented at events have been defined by low hanging fruit that doesn’t impact the bottom line. Today, the trend needs to be that you move away from the low hanging fruit and into the realm of strategy. Your #event #design should be holistically rooted in sustainable strategy. #Environmental and #social initiatives should be seamlessly woven into the fabric of your goals and objectives. When you implement them as a strategy, you avoid some of the pitfalls – low attendee engagement, low stakeholder collaboration, cost increases, unsuccessful impact. Instead – 1️⃣ Start with aligning your event design goals and objectives with your sustainability goals and objectives. 2️⃣ Design for both – seamlessly solving for each solution together, as if it’s one. 3️⃣ Be realistic with achievability of new process and implement as a building block year-over-year. 4️⃣ Track your progress. Even if you are capturing baseline data, start recording and tracking your metrics in every category. As you move into this new trend remember… sustainable event design is just event design. Reducing Our Event Footprint: A Digital and Physical Approach In the world of event planning, sustainability is key. I met once with founder of Circular Unity, a platform revolutionizing physical sustainability in events. They assess and propose new ways to operate that are better for people and the planet... now with TIME&SPACE, we complement this by tackling the digital side. Here's how we're making a difference: TIMEandSPACE for Efficient Event Management: Centralizing event info to minimize digital clutter. Shared Platforms for Media: Reducing data duplication, one photo and video at a time. Energy-Efficient Hosting: Choosing sustainable options even down to the digital font. Awareness and Education: Changing behaviors for a sustainable future. Eco-Conscious Commuting: Promoting shared transportation to and from events. Mindful Digital Communication: Rethinking our email and digital invitation strategies. 🔍 Revolutionizing Event Planning: Foresight Finds Ahead! 🎉✨ Welcome to this week's "Foresight Finds," in collaboration with Mark Bills of Transformativ Ltd! Today, we explore three groundbreaking trends transforming the event planning industry. Let’s dive into these exciting developments and their implications: Temporal Displacement Parties ⏳ Imagine stepping into an event that transports you to a different time period, not just through visuals but through a fully immersive multi-sensory experience. Temporal displacement parties are redefining themed events by incorporating scents, temperature, and period-accurate soundscapes. Whether it’s the roaring twenties or a futuristic setting, this trend invites event planners to create unique, immersive experiences that go beyond traditional décor. Collaborations with historians, perfumers, and sound engineers will be key to mastering this new trend, offering guests an unforgettable journey through time. Deepfake Entertainment Personalization 🎭 The rise of AI-powered deepfake technology is making highly personalized entertainment at events a reality. Imagine having a celebrity—real or virtual—give a personalized speech at your event, or even a fictional character come to life! Event planners are now exploring how to leverage deepfakes to create customized, engaging content. While the possibilities are vast, ethical considerations and consent will be paramount in responsibly adopting this technology. Those who master the balance of creativity and ethics will set a new standard in personalized event entertainment. Environmental Impact Ratings for Events 🌍 Sustainability is becoming a key focus in the event industry, with the introduction of standardized environmental impact ratings akin to nutritional labels. These ratings offer transparency on an event’s carbon footprint, energy consumption, and waste, helping clients and attendees make more eco-conscious choices. Event planners who proactively measure and reduce their environmental impact through green technologies and sustainable suppliers will not only appeal to eco-minded consumers but also become leaders in responsible event planning. Event planning is always evolving. To keep up, you need to know the latest trends. Let us share the two big trends in the industry: hybrid events and sustainability. More and more, hybrid events are complementing the in-person ones. This lets people from all over the world join in. From augmented and virtual reality experiences to live streaming capabilities, hybrid and virtual events change how we connect and engage with one another. Sustainability, once a buzzword, has now become a mandate. Event organizers consciously design experiences to reduce carbon footprints and promote eco-friendly practices. They are looking for ways to reduce waste and use eco-friendly materials. Instead of using things once and throwing them away, they are opting for things that can be recycled. They are also replacing printed materials with digital ones. Event planning has a bright future full of opportunities. Let's navigate it together. Stay tuned for more insights into this industry. #eventplanning #eventmanagement #industryinsights #innovation #sustainability
