Did you know there's a hidden window in Bologna where you can catch a rare glimpse at some of the city's lost canals? Venice is usually the first city to come to mind when you think of canals, but Bologna has it's own history with these narrow waterways: Back in the 12th century, Bologna's canals spanned over 37 miles and were used for transporting goods and people throughout the city. After WWII, however, the majority of the canals were covered over with roads and parking lots. Today you can see one of the few last remaining historic canals through the secret "Canal Window" on Via Piella.
