Am glad to share that Coffee Board has decided on a sustainable coffee certification initiative and constituted a core technical committee with experts from coffee, sustainability and conformity assessment. Am privileged to be nominated chair of this committee which would develop a sustainable coffee certification framework esp to address small producers and likely to adopt a phased approach with the highest level being benchmarked with global standards. #sustainability #coffee #certification #accreditation #verification #green #agriculture #commodities #plantations

Food & beverage manufacturers - are you ready for the EU’s Green Claims Directive? 🌱 Lawmakers in the European Parliament have voted in favor of a series of rules aimed at protecting consumers from misleading environmental product claims. The new 'Green Claims' directive was introduced first time in March 2023, and now, it has passed the Parliament vote. 🔎 What will the Green Claims directive require? ▪️ All environmental claims on products must be verifiable, and based on reliable data. ▪️ The claimed impact (e.g. reduced footprint) must be based on the company’s operations. Product claims based on pure carbon offsetting schemes will be banned. Companies breaking the rules can expect penalties, including exclusions from public procurements and fines of at least 4% of annual revenue. 💰 #foodvaluechain #sustainablefoodsystems #sustainableagriculture - Would you like to receive content like this regularly? 🗓️ Subscribe to our bi-weekly newsletter, Ground Truths by Improvin’, to keep a pulse on sustainability in the agri-food industry. #DRS finally approbed in Spain. The Spanish government has certifyed that the current system for collection-for-recycling (in the hands of Ecoembes) has failed to achieve the target goals (currently at 41% vs. 70% expected), and therefore a radical change is needed. Following the already established legislation, a DRS must be fully implemented in the upcoming two years throughout the Spanish territory. The regulation applies to #beberagepackaging including #singleuseplastic #bottles, #cans and #briks. Juices and milk packaging have been excluded for requiring a different treatment related to hygene and food security reasons. This system already operates successfully in more than 50 countries, reaching collection-for-recycling rates up to 90%. This are quite relevant news for the #environment, the #society and for those of us who had been collaborating with large #FMCPG firms, helping them in the process of overcoming this critical strategic transformation.

Last week, our coffee sector lead, Miguel Gamboa, joined the Innovation Forum with other experts from the coffee and cocoa sectors to discuss the ongoing impact of #EUDR on these industries. ☕🍫 Miguel emphasized how voluntary certification schemes, like the Rainforest Alliance Certification Program, can be a powerful tool to help businesses and farmers navigate and comply with EUDR requirements. He specifically pointed out how smallholder farmers can leverage the Rainforest Alliance Certification program to demonstrate their commitment to deforestation-free, legally produced coffee and cocoa on their farms. 🌱 💡 A consensus emerged from the discussion: we need to shift the focus from 𝘄𝗵𝘆 EUDR is necessary to 𝗵𝗼𝘄 this ambitious regulation can be effectively implemented to create more sustainable supply chains. ⛓️ 📸: Farmer Truong Thi Mâu, taken by Dòng Truong Kiên / Acorn #RainforestAlliance #Smallholders #DeforestationRegulation #Coffee #Cocoa #SupplyChains #Certification #RainforestAllianceCertified

Protecting the Meat Sector in the EU: Sustainability, Tradition, and Innovation Find Paola Corte's article in EFFL 1/2024 #foodlaw #culturedmeat #plantbased #meatsounding The Farm to Fork strategy aims to alter food consumption habits, specifically by decreasing red meat intake and promoting plant-based alternatives. However, Member States with strong agricultural traditions are resistant, seeking to safeguard the meat industry. Initially a minority stance, this resistance appears to be spreading across other EU countries. The authority to restrict the naming of plant-based products as meat alternatives may lie with the European Court of Justice. Despite scientific assessments, emerging evidence indicates increasing opposition within EU Member States toward lab-grown meat's future. https://lnkd.in/ek6iTRRE Paola Corte Lexxion Publisher Studio Legale Corte

Consumers Unwilling to Pay Up for Sustainable Food, JBS Says ==> one way for Australians to eat more sustainable food is to kick JBS out of Australia. If our international customers are currently willing to pay premium prices for the Australian constitutionally protected water rights that is being taxed by foreign private equity investors, then they will be prepared to pay the same price for sustainable beef that's grown using Australian water rights that foreigners can no longer tax, once our exclusive constitutional rights are restored.

The EU's Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR) comes into effect this December⏲️ , requiring coffee roasters and traders to quickly prepare over the coming months. Compliance will involve many steps, first focusing on obtaining accurate, traceable data... 🗺️ Mapping Supply Chains: Conduct thorough risk assessments and ensure traceability back to the point of origin. 📑 Documentation and Due Diligence: Implement a robust traceability system to verify compliance with local and international environmental and land use laws. 🛰️ Geolocate Farms: Ensure all farms in the supply chain are geolocated and documented. 👨🌾 Strengthen Supplier Relationships: Work closely with suppliers to support and guide them in meeting EUDR standards. 🖥️ Leverage Technology: Utilize technology to enhance data collection and verification processes. Compliance will not only align with legal requirements but enhance transparency, strengthen partnerships, and provides a competitive edge in sustainability-focused markets- everything that Nset seeks to support! #SustainableBusiness #Scope3 #Insetting #CarbonInsetting #SupplyChain
