BEING A RECEPTIONIST (From a Hotel Receptionist's Desk) Being a receptionist in this part of the World can feel like a bit of a joke, especially when you’re a university graduate. People don’t really see it as a career. They think it’s just something you do while waiting for better things to come along. But the real issue isn’t the job itself. It’s how people see receptionists. You’re expected to be warm, friendly, helpful, and efficient. Always cheerful, always smiling. But here’s the tricky part: smile too much, and people think you’re fishing for tips. Offer to help with bags, and suddenly, they think you’re begging for money. So, you learn the art of the perfect smile. Somewhere between a grin and a polite half-smile. Not too big, not too small. And heaven forbid you forget to smile altogether, that’s when people think you’re rude, bored, or downright unprofessional. Then there’s the stuff you deal with at home. Family, friends, neighbors, they all have questions: “Is that really your job? Just sitting at a desk all day, smiling and helping people with their bags?” “You have a degree! Why not get a real job? Or is your degree… not good enough?” It can be frustrating, even a little humiliating at times. But here’s the thing: some of us actually enjoy it. There’s joy in meeting new people, helping them feel at home, and being the first smiling face they see. It’s not just a job, it’s an art. And some of us wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Back to My Hotel Roots💃 Hey Fam, 😊 I’m back in the hospitality world as a receptionist and front desk officer at a four-star hotel🌟 🌟 After months of working remotely, I’ve returned to the busy, exciting world of onsite hotel work. Meeting new faces, solving problems, and making guests feel at home. This feels like reconnecting with an old friend. But here’s the twist, I’m still working remotely too. Balancing onsite work with my remote gigs has been a new adventure, and I’m loving the mix. It’s proof that you can grow, adapt, and still do what you love. Whether it’s behind a desk or behind a screen, the goal is the same which is serve with a smile and bring value wherever you are. Meeting me for the first time?
