This year has been complex and oftentimes challenging for the global restaurant industry. I found the article below paints a good picture of the current landscape. While much of the data comes from the U.S., the trends and insights are still highly relevant for us in the APAC region. Here’s what we can take away: 1. Navigating Bankruptcies and Closures: Bankruptcies and closures have plagued the industry due to thin margins and changing consumer behaviours. The looming threat of economic fluctuations encourages us all to remain agile and vigilant, ensuring our business models are resilient. 2. Value Wars: As seen with major QSR brands in the U.S. launching aggressive value campaigns, we, too, must focus on providing value to our customers. Offering value-driven options can retain customer loyalty. 3. Industry Darlings: Despite the struggles, some brands continue to thrive through innovation and strategic growth. This highlights the importance of continuously evolving our offerings and staying ahead of market trends. We can and should learn from these success stories and apply similar strategies. 4. Publication alert: This study reports a commercial hospitality model to explore the connections between word-of-mouth, loyalty, patronage, and customers' revisit intentions in Brazilian restaurants. By analyzing data from 213 patrons using Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the findings demonstrate that commercial hospitality positively impacts word-of-mouth, loyalty, and patronage, influencing the intention to revisit. These results offer valuable insights for hospitality and customer behavior research by integrating these critical constructs into an empirical model of behavioral intentions.
