Special thanks to the entire Chemistry - Swansea University department for a thoroughly enjoyable 3 years. Enormous gratitude to Owen Guy for his guidance and mentorship. Also many thanks to Joel Loveridge for his great advice and support. Next update will hopefully confirm my degree result, and then my job hunt will recommence with renewed passion! (For those interested, my dissertation was on: “Functionalizing Graphene with 1,5-diaminonaphthalene for the Development of Graphene-based Gas Sensing”)

You should never be a technician during your PhD. You should use your brain and contribute significantly in your PhD rather than just following the work plan of your guide daily. Which group do you belong to.. 1. Your PhD work was proposed by you and the guide was convinced 2. The guide has proposed as work and you executed with his instructions without any contribution from your part 3. The guide proposed the work, after sometime you reached the track and had given significant contributions from both. I will write about different types of PhD guides in next post....

🌟 Exciting Opportunities for ETH students for Master Thesis in my Group! 🌟 We're thrilled to announce several #MasterThesis projects available in the Groundwater Chair at the Environmental Engineering Institute at ETH Zürich, including two exciting projects in my group. Here's a quick overview: 1) Control and Systems Development of a Real-Time #Microfluidic #Antibiotic Screening and Single-Cell Detection Platform Develop a high-throughput, self-adapting system to quantify antibiotic susceptibility at the microscale. This project, led by Dr. Sam Charlton, involves designing an integrated control system and creating a robust, portable module. Ideal for students passionate about biotechnology and system design. 🌱💊🦠 2) A #Microfluidic Investigation of the Spatial Arrangement of Microorganisms in a #Biofilm for Sustainable Light-Driven #WastewaterTreatment Explore the structure and function of #phototrophic biofilms to enhance sustainable wastewater treatment. This project, led by Dr. Emine Kayahan Kayan, combines microfluidics, fluorescence microscopy, and numerical modeling to study microorganism competition within biofilms. Perfect for those interested in environmental sustainability and biofilm dynamics. 🌍💧🔬 Discover more and apply here

Prof, Ali Ghahremaninezhad, I have checked your website, and most of your research revolves around my undergraduate thesis, where I tried displacing Portland cement with agricultural and industrial waste i.e Millet Husk Ash and Calcium Carbide Waste respectively, since after my XRF the result was promising according to ASTM. However, my MSc research revolves around experimentation (tracer-gas), simulation & CFD Analysis of Indoor Air Quality using Design Builder & ANSYS software. (Building Energy Efficiency, HVAC, ...) Can I still be accepted in your concrete lab as a PhD student (despite these changes in BSc & MSc research)? I learned that the University of Miami is a good school
Ph.D. research positions are open immediately at the Advanced Infrastructure Materials Research Lab at the University of Miami, with a start date in the Spring or Fall of 2025. Motivated candidates are encouraged to email their CVs to Dr. Ali Ghahremaninezhad at a.ghahremani@miami.edu.
