Those who work in construction know this truth: Careers in construction are personally, professionally, and financially rewarding, and the industry is constantly evolving to stay on the cutting edge of technology and meet the ever-changing needs of communities. And fortunately, the public perception of the industry has undergone a makeover in recent years: Gen Z is even being called “the toolbelt generation” by publications like the Wall Street Journal and NPR, as they begin to reassess traditional wisdom about the unmatched value of a four-year degree. But there’s still work to be done. "The workforce development program will focus on the skills a millwright would need—and the more specialized skill set on how to preserve and restore industrial artifacts and infrastructure. While there is a need to develop expertise in the manual trades in general, this program will help establish industry standards for what is required when addressing historic, industrial preservation projects." There are some major shifts happening in the workplace. When I say workplace, I mean the entire array of industries. I have spent many years in tech. I loved it. I was consistently surrounded by smart, driven, and creative people. They are creating, innovating and building and solving problems. Another industry I have done work in that I've realized I love too is construction. When I first realized this it felt like a far reach since I myself am not good at physically building anything. Although I grew up with it. My dad was an architect and then became a general contractor. In his later years he became a sought after expert in the legal space having to do with construction cases. I have worked with many companies in the construction umbrella and am currently working with some right now, including leaders at global suppliers in the construction space. It's an industry that has never and will never go away. The construction industry also has smart, driven, and creative people. They are creating, innovating and building and solving problems. That industry too is in high demand of workers, pioneers and innovators. They also seem to happier overall than those I had typically worked with in other industries. The reasons mentioned as to why? 1. Job security 2. Little to no education debt with great earning potential 3.
