Dependency Ratio is an essential metric in poverty studies. It indicates the pressure working members in a family are exposed to. It also highlights unemployment which may be due to factors beyond individual control, such as economic conditions and structural issues in the labor market, that can influence the prevalence and severity of dependency. This article suggests that Dependency Ratio can be easily computed from data collected in Household Surveys.
