On May 16-17, the European Engineering Skills Council held its second meeting in Brussels. President Klaus Thürriedl there represented the ECEC as a dedicated Skills Council member. During this event, the latest trends and actionable measures to shape the European Engineering Skills Strategy were discussed. Representatives of the educational and academic sector, the industry and professional partners as well as policy-making bodies were present, allowing for a productive meeting under many different perspectives. This meeting was a vital part in further developing the Engineers4Europe (E4E) Skills Strategy, which is now set to be released in September this year. #EngineeringExcellence #E4E #Innovation #Collaboration #EuropeanEngineering

“The world needs engineers more than ever. Here’s why…” Warren East, the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET)’s 143rd president, has spent 40+ years as an engineer and leader. From his time as CEO at Arm and Rolls-Royce, he’s seen firsthand the role of engineering in solving humanity’s greatest challenges. Today, Warren spoke about: 1️⃣ Why engineering matters now more than ever • In a world filled with volatility, uncertainty, and conflict, engineers hold the key to creating sustainable solutions. 2️⃣ The need for action, not complacency • “It’s dangerously complacent to think, ‘it was ever thus.’ The challenges we face—climate change, resource depletion, and technological transformation—are unprecedented.” 3️⃣ Closing the “investment gap” • The technology exists. The challenge? Aligning risk, return, and time horizons to drive the energy transition and sustainable development. 🔑 “The choices we make today will determine the world we leave behind.” #Engineers are problem-solvers. #Innovators. #Creators. To every young engineer, Warren has this advice: “It’s a privilege to be in this field—act with purpose, work at pace, and make your own luck.” The IET is committed to supporting engineers in leading the way forward.
