And now for something completely different: https://lnkd.in/dbH29NqP It was 2011 when Phil Wright and Claudia Ildefonso Wright showed me around Portugal and Nazare was just a point of discussion. It wasn’t until 2018 when we spent a Port wine fueled looking for vineyards (and haunted houses) that I experienced Nazare. Fast forward 2023. In visiting our beverage laboratory in Alcobaça, we took a detour to Nazare. At this point the big wave season was just getting started and we got to experience some of the best athletes in the world plying their trade (eg Alessandro Marcianò). But like the 10.000-30.000 people going through that fishing village every day, we simply “didn’t get it.” Was the competition going on today? Are these surfers getting points? Money? What’s going on. We realized that there is a massive amount of untapped potential given the fact that everyone there (for the most part) surfs for different reasons. Some are exercising, some are providing content, some are getting the adrenaline rush, others are attempting to beat the world record. But the fact of the matter is that everyone is providing “a show” for the entirety of the season and everyone on the sidelines benefits from this show. As such, BWGP was born out of the desire to bring some degree of order to the chaos; to document the feats, trials and tribulations of these phenomenal athletes and hopefully funnel additional revenue into their pockets in order to enable to do keep doing what they are doing. Unlike other surf events that are one-two day endeavors broken up into heats, BWGP looks to the “entertainment value” provided by the surfers throughout the season. One person may surf a 33-meter wave once but the other surfer surfs ten 20-meter waves. Who provides the most entertainment value to the crowds on the side or following a live stream? Is the person hopping on a monster wave but bailing after 2 seconds more entertaining than a person who experiences a wipeout? To the untrained eye, everyone there is part of the action. And if the restaurant selling hamburgers on top of the hill makes money from this action, then shouldn’t the athletes get a piece of that?! In any event, we are pretty excited to get this started this year. Anybody who knows how we think, knows that we prefer to own event rather than sponsor them. If you’d like to follow the action, check out Big Wave Grand Prix on its website and also on social media. Live streams will take place (some people do it via a phone, we will do it with high quality cameras and drones) when the waves are compelling enough. The athletes that we cover can surf as much or as little as they want to. Furthermore, the awards that we give are based less on the surf ability and more on the positive impact that they make to the local/regional/national community. As such, we don’t run a surf event per se. It’s a social community project with video and photo competition thrown in to it. Surf’s up..

22 MAY, SOLITAIRE DAY: I squealed as I saw what today's date commemorated. I grew up loving card games. We'd always play them on our boat growing up after a long day of sun and skiing. Did someone say SOLITAIRE or DOUBLE SOLITAIRE? I'd immediately be game. Then, when it came out as a computer game... well, forget about it! I mean, were you even alive in the 90s, if you don't recognize this meme? According to Brittanica (paraphrased), card solitaires have their origins towards the end of the 18th century in the Baltic region. It is believed to have its roots "as a form of fortune-telling; whether or not a game 'came out' supposedly indicated whether or not the player’s desire would come true... suggested by a surge of interest in cartomancy (see tarot) at that time, a marked similarity between the way cards are laid out for both activities..." Honestly, are you surprised? Didn't we all know there had to be something magic about the game for the amount of hours most of us have spent playing the darned thing? This deal just got extended until 4/8! Message me with any questions. --------------------- Hey friends. For those who don't already know, I became an Operative for Peak Skis last spring. And I can wholeheartedly say they are making absolutely ripping skis across the board! Peak just announced their spring sale, and its a killer deal: $999 for any two pairs of skis through April 1st! Use my referral link (https://bit.ly/3JHpSg4) and take an additional $50 off this already screamin deal! Best of all, Peak is offering an extended demo/testing period. Given it’s late in the season, all customers who buy now will have until December 31, 2024 to test their skis and return them if they are not 100% happy with performance. Peak is offering this generous demo period because 1. We believe it takes more than a day or two to demo skis under different conditions, on a variety of terrain. 2. We are confident about our skis and believe the more time they spend on them, the more they will enjoy them. DM me with any questions. If you are a Tahoe local, I have some demos you can take for a spin.
