Having commissioned the large FWS wetland near Ashford, we are now monitoring it to ensure that vegetation is becoming established and water quality is improving. Some replanting may be required, but early lab results are showing treatment efficiencies of 42% for Total Nitrogen and 80% for Total Phosphorus. Part 8 Better Health Outcomes for Louisiana's Rural Population through Sewer Lagoon Rehabilitation: I just got back from the Louisiana Municipal Association Annual Conference and had some great conversations with elected officials, municipal staff and subject matter experts from across the state. When I brought up the subject of recapturing all the lost capacity in our rural wastewater lagoons, it got some attention. We discussed streamlining the grant process for rural communities to offset costs. We discussed creating partnerships between municipalities to share the costs of dredging and trucking. We discussed shortening those trucking trips by finding a beneficial use for the high nutrient sludge. Those new ideas I hoped to hear and the cooperation I hoped to find became real and these conversations are just getting started so...
