Christmas is a challenging time for many people and often we don't understand that the challenges aren't a revolt against the season so much as a challenge around what the season brings for the individual styles. C styles don't necessarily look forward to their entire family coming to stay and the mish mash of people all at their place, that can feel like chaos. I styles often love Christmas, and want the house glowing in all its festivities. To decorate every inch of the house is the goal of many an I style, and the C styles look at all the decorating and think it looks like "clutter" it messes with their orderly brain and makes it difficult for them to live in their own home. S styles want to ensure that everyone is happy and that the presents are fair for everyone and that all the food needs for everyone are catered for, their caring focus can make it exhausting. Does everyone have a comfortable bed and a present that will be meaningful for them? Their energy levels are really tested around all of the extra's that need to happen. D styles would like to be organising a productive and efficient season but there are curve balls going in every direction, their need to be agile and "let go" is really tested over this period of time. The plan is a great idea but may not all go according to the D styles preferences. When the plan is disrupted and the efficiencies they organised are messed with it can disturb them that what they meant to be organised and efficient has been messed up by others who couldn't organise themselves out of a paper bag! Christmas can be celebrated in an orderly way Christmas can be celebrated in a chaotic way Christmas can be celebrated in a last minute way Christmas can be celebrated with or without tinsel When you understand that behaviour comes from a person's style preferences and not from a particular desire to be difficult then as a family/couple/friend group maybe you can understand and show kindness and tolerance for the people that you normally love. I wish you all a kind holiday season 🎄✨ Marina Shearer

No festive season without decorations 🤩 Besides Xmas vibe playlists this is usually a big part of how people get into the holiday spirit. But did you know that when—and how—people decorate can vary widely from culture to culture? Let’s take a look at how different parts of the world approach this important part of the season: 🇵🇭 Philippines: Known for having one of the longest Christmas seasons, decorations in the Philippines often start as early as September (love it 😍 ) The highlight is the parol, a star-shaped lantern symbolizing the Christmas story and the triumph of light over darkness. It’s a beautiful tradition that brings warmth and joy to the season, even months before Christmas Day. 🇺🇸 United States and Europe: In many countries, families begin decorating with Christmas trees and lights in late November or early December. The festive spirit kicks off in the weeks leading up to Christmas, creating a sense of excitement and togetherness. But in places like Finland, the tradition of decorating often starts later, after St. Lucia’s Day (December 13), focusing on a more intimate, calm lead-up to Christmas. 🇲🇽 Mexico: In Mexico, festive decorations start during the Advent period and carry through to the New Year. Families celebrate with nativity scenes (Nacimiento) and piñatas, symbolizing joy, family, and community spirit. The decorations often reflect the strong cultural and religious ties that make Christmas in Mexico a deeply meaningful time. So , why am I sharing this post with you? For understanding the timing and style of decorations across cultures can help us navigate cross-cultural events, respect different traditions, and appreciate how others create festive atmospheres. Whether it’s the early start of the Philippines or the cozy Finnish Christmas, decorations are a universal sign of celebration—just celebrated at different times in different places! How do you decorate for the holidays? Does your tradition start early, or do you wait until closer to the big day? Share with me in the comments! 💬

Use a rented kitchen space or send baking kits to remote team members. Once a year, I let my paper shredder take a well-deserved break, and instead, all those papers and documents are transformed into Christmas decorations. I’m not a fan of the plastic, mass-produced decorations that flood the market. That said, I’m not judging—if that’s your thing, it’s absolutely fine. This is just my personal choice: I don’t like them. Let’s not be hypocritical, though—I’m fully aware that much of what surrounds us is plastic, even if it’s labelled as glass. I remember real glass ornaments and real glass jars—the ones that shattered at the slightest touch. Nowadays, these so-called glass decorations can hit the floor and stay intact, so I know they’re not true glass. I’m not trying to be hypocritical here, but even so, I can’t stand the cheap plastic baubles that are pushed on us every year. For me, my Christmas tree is a reflection of my choices. It needs to be special, and this is how I make it so. That’s why we create our own decorations every year. We hang gingerbread cookies, dried fruits, and handmade paper ornaments on our tree. It’s my way of celebrating Christmas while adding a unique and meaningful touch. And trust me I am the last person who is into stuff like this🤣However I can suck it up and do it once a year LOL It’s also a wonderful way to spend quality time with my little one during the festive season. December is the perfect time for this. You can even use your paper to create beautiful Christmas cards. Give it a try and make your holidays a little more special! #christmas #papershredder #isoff #VAswoosh

Christmas Challenges When You’re Visually Impaired The festive season is full of magic, but for those of us with vision impairments, it can come with unique challenges. Twinkling lights and elaborate decorations are beautiful for many, but they can make navigating spaces more difficult. Unfamiliar layouts in shops, unexpected obstacles, and even reflective surfaces can turn a festive outing into a bit of an obstacle course. Crowded Christmas markets and busy streets can also be overwhelming. Relying on sound cues becomes trickier with so much noise around, and it’s easy to feel disoriented. Let’s not forget the extra consideration for guide dogs, who might find these busy, chaotic environments stressful too. This time of year is all about coming together, so let’s remember to make the festive season accessible and inclusive for everyone. Whether it’s leaving clear paths, offering help when asked, or just being patient, small actions can make a big difference. #ChristmasAccessibility #VisuallyImpaired #InclusiveFestivities #GuideDogLife #SightLossJourney #AccessibleHolidays #FestiveSeasonChallenges #VICommunity

How to safely decorate in style this Christmas 🙌 Like we always say, safety is a top priority at POD, and Christmas time is no exception. In fact, this time of year can bring its own unique safety considerations. We’re addressing some of these risks to make sure everyone's holidays are merry and safe. Lights are a great addition to any festive display when used with correct care. Outlets should not be overloaded or connected with more than one extension lead, also known as daisy chaining. Wires should be inspected for any fraying, or other signs of damage, to avoid electrical fires. 💡 Christmas trees can catch fire in less than 10 seconds, making them a significant fire risk! To enjoy and protect your beautiful pine tree, water regularly and monitor hydration levels. Also, check your fire and smoke alarms, replacing batteries when required. 🎄 We all love admiring intricate ornaments and festive flowers, but some may pose a potential threat. It's important to keep any hazardous decorations out of reach from small children and pets who could be harmed. Also, keeping stairs and hallways free of ornaments and decorations can help to prevent any falls 🔔 Nothing says Christmas like a warm, spicy candle or a log burning fireplace. However, with flammable decorations and greetings cards creating an additional fire risk, it's crucial to ensure they are always supervised to be enjoyed safely. 🕯 Outdoor decorations are a great way to spread festive cheer, but it’s important to check your lease to prevent any breaches. It’s also integral to make sure any additions to a balcony/terrace are removed in the event of adverse weather conditions to avoid damage or injury. ⭐️ Keep these tips in mind for a safe and exciting run up to Christmas! 🎅 #PropertySafety #PropertyManagement #PropertyDevelopment #Christmas

6dMarina - This is SO cool 😀 . I've never seen DiSC used in this manner. I think CliftonStrengths and gender also play a little role here. I'm an I/D with Relator as #2, so I participate in moderate decorating to get the feel (but not over the top). My wife is a C/S and really enjoys the decorating and "serving" of small groups of visitors. Oh yeah ... with her Latino family culture ... I can hardly ever get a word in 🤣
