Utilities, the time to act is now! 🛡️ The latest NERC CIP-015-1 standards mandate internal network security monitoring (INSM) to address rising cybersecurity threats to our power grids. With compliance deadlines approaching and cyberattacks growing more sophisticated, deploying continuous network monitoring tools isn't just a recommendation—it's a necessity. SolarWinds is the named attack in the Federal Register for CIP-015-1 and is a major reason for the need for wider and deeper monitoring. What does it mean? Compliance for CIP-015-1 is coming to your utility. Utilities will need monitoring tools with deep and wide asset intelligence and network control. In the past, standards focused on protecting the electronic security perimeter of networks, but this approach left blind spots within the internal network. There is a lot to protect. In response to heightened geopolitical tensions and potential attacks on critical infrastructure sectors, Rockwell Automation released guidance encouraging users to remove connectivity to all industrial control systems (ICS) devices with public-facing internet access. In an advisory to customers, Rockwell said users should never configure their assets to be directly connected to the public-facing internet. The large industrial manufacturer said removing that connectivity as a proactive step reduces attack surface and can immediately reduce exposure to unauthorized and malicious cyber activity from external threat actors. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on May 21 followed up Rockwell’s advisory with a post of its own to bring attention to Rockwell’s post. https://lnkd.in/gutup2vZ
