Today I can celebrate my 20th anniversary at Wolters Kluwer, Twinfield and I was put in the spotlight with a number of much appreciated gifts. Started in the picturesque Wijk bij Duurstede with about 10 colleagues and has now been part of the Wolters Kluwer family of more than 21,000 colleagues for many years. Summarizing 20 years is quite difficult, but I dare say there is never a dull moment. I have no idea anymore how many different roles I have had. Working long days and nights as a team to deliver the best for our customers. Celebrated many successes. Always trying to improve, almost never standing still. Experienced many beautiful moments, sometimes also very sad. Seeing many colleagues come (and go), beautiful relationships and friendships that have developed. Colleagues who have just left school to colleagues who are retiring. Weddings, births, watching children grow into teenagers and adults. (Now more and more via social media, which hardly existed 20 years ago 😉) Unfortunately, sometimes also very difficult moments such as funerals, saying goodbye to dear colleagues, the corona time, the war in Ukraine that our (former) colleagues have to deal with on a daily basis. Especially since we became part of Wolters Kluwer, I have daily international conversations with direct team members, colleagues within and outside our own division, customers and suppliers. Always new challenges, having interesting conversations and meeting people. I think the people and the dynamics are the main reason I still work here. And I think it's clear, I don't think you've gotten rid of me yet.

The right people are what truly make an organization. When you have a team that shares the same values and commitment, it’s not just the work that gets done—it’s the culture that’s built.
As we wrapped up another year, our annual Christmas dinner was the perfect moment to reflect on the incredible people who make this journey so worthwhile. It’s not just the work we do. It’s how we do it. Every day, you bring your best. Whether it’s finding the right answers for our clients, tackling challenges with integrity, or simply supporting one another, your dedication shines through. You make this company what it is, and I couldn’t be more proud or more grateful. Thank you for the care, effort, and thoughtfulness you bring to everything you do. It’s a privilege to work alongside you. Here’s to celebrating this season and all the amazing things we’ll achieve together in the year ahead! 🎄🎉

To everyone celebrating their birthday this month, Take this time to celebrate and reflect on the significant events and lessons learned throughout your journey. It is a wonderful opportunity to honour your achievements and look ahead to the future. As you celebrate and do some self introspections, remember to avoid these common pitfalls: (1). Don’t Compare: Avoid comparing yourself to others. Everyone’s journey is unique, and it’s important to focus on your own path and achievements. (2). Don’t Focus on Age: Try not to dwell on the number of years. Instead, focus on the experiences and wisdom you’ve gained over the years. (3). Don’t Neglect Self-Care: Make sure to prioritize self-care. It’s easy to get caught up in responsibilities, but taking care of yourself is essential. (4). Don’t Fear Change: Embrace the changes that come with aging. Life can bring wonderful surprises at any age, so stay open-minded. (5). Don’t Isolate Yourself: Avoid withdrawing from social activities. Stay engaged with your community and friends to maintain a fulfilling life. Happy Birthday to all of you! Enjoy your special Month 🎂 🥳 🎉.

Anniversaries are reminders to check in on our past selves... This was the heading of a MEDIUM newsletter published on 11th September. Although the content is about the horrific events of 9/11, it also made me think about other anniversaries. Birthdays, weddings, and other special events. "Anniversaries serve an important psychological purpose: They’re like checkpoints in time, reminders to pull over and remember the people we used to be." Anniversaries give us the opportunity to just stop for a moment, take a deep breath, reflect, and think about the lessons of the past. Who were we a year ago, or two, or ten? Who are we now? How have we changed? What have we learnt? What contribution have we made? What have we done for a better world? And what about our aspirations for the future? For ourselves? Our partners? Our families? Our communities? When we reach the next anniversary checkpoint, what do we want to reflect on? Got me thinking.... #reflection #appreciation #gratitude #personalgrowth
