This December we helped a young adult in our community access and move into new housing. Our staff provided support with the application process within the housing voucher system, accessing funds for moving expenses and signing up for renter's insurance. They shared, that they are happy to be in a safer neighborhood, a nicer building and they are also saving money! #SupportFosterYouth #GiveHope #WelcomeHome

Corporate Counsels, Do you want your HSA to be 100% taxable to your beneficiaries? Welp, if your beneficiary isn't a spouse, it will be. The IRS views an HSA as a kind of trust, so a spouse gets all of the benefits listed. But other beneficiaries don't. How can you make the HSA non-taxable? List a charity as the beneficiary. If you have life insurance or other assets to leave to heirs, use those first for estate planning and consider giving the HSA funds to charity. There's no need to pay extra in taxes when you don't need to. #financialplanning #corporatecounsel #generalcounsel #law

Life insurance is a benefit you obtain for your family and loved ones that will enable you to achieve some, several or all of the following objectives: 1. replace the income you produce in the event of your death. 2. To have funds for unexpected funeral expenses or similar arrangements. 3. To create an inheritance for your loved ones. 4. Make a charitable contribution to the charity of your choice. 5. Pay inheritance/estate taxes. 6. Have a financial instrument that allows you to save, invest or have collateral for loans. Think about what your family would have to face if you are gone, and how you could make those difficult times easier for them.

At United Way of Brazoria County, we’re committed to being responsible stewards of every dollar entrusted to us. Our client vetting process is a key part of ensuring donations are used effectively and transparently to support those truly in need. Recently, our case management team uncovered an attempted scheme that demonstrates the importance of these procedures. During routine checks, we identified a fraudulent arrangement between a property manager and a tenant. By verifying rent-related documents and contacting the landlord directly for a final ledger, our team was able to detect inconsistencies that revealed the truth, saving United Way $1,400 that could be redirected to help families facing genuine emergencies. Here’s how our Client Vetting Process ensures due diligence: ✔️ Verify Rent-Related Documents: We request and cross-check leases, eviction notices, and ledgers with landlords for accuracy. ✔️ Confirm Validity of Eviction Notices: Generic eviction claims are validated to prevent fraud. ✔️ Review Income Proof & Spending Habits: Paycheck stubs and bank statements are analyzed to ensure transparency and provide budgeting guidance if needed. ✔️ Validate Utility Assistance Claims: Residency is confirmed with government-issued IDs and utility bills. ✔️ Investigate Benefit Programs: We verify SNAP/TANIF benefits, employment, and enrollment in support programs to understand the full scope of each client’s situation. Our commitment to rigorous vetting doesn’t just save money, it ensures donor contributions directly support meaningful, life-changing assistance for families in need. Thank you for trusting us with your generosity.

Be careful out there. This one has some flavors of conservation easement schemes. "The Internal Revenue Service today warned taxpayers to avoid promoters of fraudulent tax schemes involving donations of ownership interests in closely held businesses, sometimes marketed as 'Charitable LLCs.'” https://lnkd.in/e-H4Svyk #taxscam #taxlaw #taxcompliance #IRS #charitabledonations #taxdeductions
