Woke up to see that our efforts are appreciated. Citations rose to 1500. When I am asked about the secret, my response is the PCR rule. Project: Focus on working on projects. Every projects is an opportunity to tell a story. Collaborate wirh senior, junior and mate in the industry and academia. Paper writing is not about publishing. It is about contributing to the body of knowledge no matter how little. Read and Read the works of other researchers to keep yourself informed. Pay attention to those citing your work. They are sendng you an update on your research. This is a product of about 20 years since my bachelors and 15 years since I joined the academia.

A First for Me: From Consultant to Advisor I recently had a first in my career as a PhD thesis consultant — and it was both humbling and incredibly rewarding. What began as guiding them through the intricacies of research design, data analysis, and academic writing has often evolved into something more meaningful — a collaborative partnership grounded in trust, intellectual growth, and mutual respect. Their appreciation of my approach and the way we navigated the complexities of research together led them to trust me with a role that went beyond our initial engagement of friendly pro bono advising. This experience reminded me that successful research support is about more than technical guidance. It’s about fostering clarity, building confidence, and helping candidates realize their vision for their work. That trust, that belief in my ability to guide them through one of the most challenging academic milestones, is something I deeply value. Being asked to step into an advisory role for the first time has reinforced why I do this work — to see researchers grow, thrive, and finish strong. I’m honored to be part of these journeys, and I look forward to supporting even more researchers as they push boundaries and create knowledge that matters. If you’re navigating the complexities of a PhD thesis and need a partner in the process, feel free to connect. Your research deserves to be seen, understood, and celebrated. Every academic journey is unique, and sometimes, the right guidance makes all the difference. #PhD #ThesisConsulting #AcademicAdvising #ResearchSupport #Milestones

What your PhD Supervisor expects - but might not tell you A PhD isn’t just about research. It’s about leading, adapting, and delivering results. Here’s what supervisors expect: 1. 𝗢𝘄𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 Supervisors expect YOU to lead the project. ↳ Independence beats constant supervision. ↳ Solve challenges before asking for help. ↳ Manage timelines without reminders. ↳ Propose ideas, not just problems. 2. 𝗕𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 They assume you’ll know your field - better than them. ↳ Challenge assumptions and defend insights. ↳ Master the theories and research gaps. ↳ Stay updated on trends in your area. ↳ They guide - you own the expertise. 3. 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 Draft early - progress matters more than perfection. ↳ Submit drafts regularly, even rough ones. ↳ Fix grammar - they won’t do it for you. ↳ Revise quickly based on feedback. ↳ Expect feedback - and lots of it. https://lnkd.in/dGsvUW8q #ThesisWriting #PhDLife #AcademicTwitter #GradSchoolProblems #ResearchStruggles #DissertationHelp #WritingCommunity #PhDChat #AcademicChatter #PhDJourney

https://lnkd.in/e9MJSQKd We’re all familiar with the pressure to 'Publish or Perish.' But how is this compatible with early-career researchers often waiting an extremely long time to get feedback on drafts from their PIs? I just published a new blog post sharing my latest thoughts on academia, where I provocatively introduce the 'Publish or Stall' phenomenon. I’m curious to hear your thoughts! #Research #AcademicLife #PublishOrPerish #OpenScience #EarlyCareerResearchers

Stop pressuring PhD students to publish without proper training, you're giving them anxiety. A better approach would be to provide them with: ✅ 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽𝘀 👉 Formal workshops can be very helpful in demystifying the writing and publication process. ✅ 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 👉 A mentor can provide one-on-one coaching to help students understand how to publish in their field. ✅ 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗚𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽𝘀 👉 Writing groups are a great way for students to share their work, receive feedback, and gain support from peers. ✅ 𝗦𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘀 👉 Expert-led discussions on research and publishing can start a conversation around ethics and shifting the priority from quantity to quality. ✅ 𝗢𝗻-𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 👉 Students are busy. Make it easy for them to get the help they need on their time. 🔑 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 Publishing can be long and hard. Without proper training, students can get discouraged and lose hope in their abilities. So, instead of pushing them to publish, let's get them the supports they need to be successful. P.S. What did I miss? How else can we better support PhD students in publishing their research? ➖ ➖ ➖ ➖ I'm Joseph Rios, the founder of Grad Student Academy. Follow me if you enjoyed this content. I was strongly warned against pursuing science communication during my PhD, as it was seen as a distraction that would turn me into a “social media” scientist rather than a “real” one. I started writing blogs anyways, but it wasn't until taking Vanessa L Fuller's course, "Science Communication and Public Engagement," that I realized embracing this “disruption” was the best decision I ever made. Vanessa’s expertise in academic writing, grant prep, and scicomm didn’t just shape my skills—it flipped the script on what it means to be a scientist today. Because let’s face it: half of being a scientist is doing the research 🧠 , and the other half is communicating it ✏ —to investors, peers, clinicians, and other stakeholders. PhD training should inherently include this kind of learning because it makes us not just better scientists, but better advocates for our work. Vanessa, thank you for being a game-changer and for proving that real growth happens when you push beyond the “traditional” path. Here’s to the mentors who dare to teach what we truly need, and thanks for the coffee catch-up ☕ 😊 #ScienceCommunication #Mentorship #Communication #SoftSkills

The academia has become publish or perish. 🎓 You either get 3-5 papers a year in top journals and get tenure, or you're out. 🙅♂️ You lose your job. You lose the authority and prestige. You feel frustrated and overwhelmed. 📍 Fortunately, there’s a better process: Publish and flourish. 🪄 We’ve perfected it with 460+ PhD students and researchers. 🎓 PhD students such as Ashoka Ranjeewa, who wrote 3 papers in 10 weeks. Or researchers such as Khaled Kubaisi, who wrote two grant proposals and two papers in 5 months. 📍 How does the system work? 1️⃣ High-Impact Topic Identifier: you will never publish in top Scopus-indexed journals unless you have unique topics that offer novel insights. 2️⃣ Inverted Pyramid: even the most brilliant idea can be presented incoherently, which is why we dig deep into how to tell a coherent story in each section of your paper or thesis 3️⃣ High-Impact Language: if you're able to highlight the unique contributions and the novelty of your paper throughout, it brings you one step closer to publishing 4️⃣ Success Planner: many researchers and PhD students procrastinate on their writing and work 70+ hours a week; that's why we show you how to work SMARTER, not harder 5️⃣ Accountability: it's one thing knowing what to do, but a whole otehr thing to actually do it day in and day out 6️⃣ Feedback Flywheel: if you have to wait weeks or months for feedback, no wonder it takes you forever to submit papers; so one thing we do is reduce your waiting time to 1-3 working days Do you want to publish and flourish? 🪄 👀 Watch this FREE training. (link in the comments ⬇️) I explain exactly how to go from 0 to 3+ papers in 12 months. WITHOUT working weekends or 70+ hours a week. There's no opt-in or pitch either. Just 30 minutes of pure value sharing my best strategies. 🤓 🎥 Watch the training, publish and flourish.
