Did you know that Ontario's agriculture and food sector contributes a staggering $47 billion to the economy each year? From farm to fork, it powers over 750,000 jobs, representing 10% of the province's workforce! 🌾💼 Investing in agriculture and food education today ensures a stronger, sustainable tomorrow. 🌱
Be part of #GivingTuesday and give the gift of agriculture and food literacy! Help us raise $425 to fund a Teacher Ambassador Program (TAP) workshop to bring agriculture and food education to a classroom in Ontario. Our youth play an important role in the growth and sustainability of our agriculture and food system. Agriculture and food literacy foster knowledge, skills, and critical thinking to help support youth to explore their role in our food system while introducing them to fascinating career opportunities available in this dynamic sector. As you probably know, we have been successfully advocating for better access to medications to treat severe pain, including from excruciating cluster headaches, and this work is ongoing. We take a strong stance against the abuse and torture of animals, and will be focusing even more on this area of huge moral importance, including in our engagement with the global citizens' assembly network. We are currently preparing a "Guide to Compassionate Governance", drawing on the wisdom from several fields of expertise to highlight effective strategies and policies, which we will publish and communicate widely in 2025. We are also currently carrying out a unique, large-scale study to collect data on the suffering people experience due to a wide range of life conditions, which we will publish as part of a larger overview of human and animal suffering on our planet and approaches to mitigating it. We expect to have significant impact through the adoption of some of the concrete ideas we are promoting. So what was it? No one brave enough to guess? Micronovo Technologies Pty Ltd was acclimatising an anaerobic sludge for a client of UNSW The client is designing a new WWTP for a unique waste water stream. We’ve acclimatised sludge so Ranjith Kumar Rajendran, Ph.D could use it to determine the degradation kinetics and optimise design options. How did the kit work? Waste water was pumped from Keg 1 at a consistent rate. The small Keg 2 started as 100% buffer solution slowly increased in waste water concentration. Keg 3 then had a gentle increase in influent concentrations. Recirc pump for mixing and temperature managed at 35C leading to the sludge being acclimatised to temperature and feed water over 30 days! Did it all go smoothly? Hell no! Did we learn, adapt and successfully acclimatise sludge? Absolutely!
A fantastic prize for guessing what this is! Most of our lab work is Microdiagnostic analysis such as bacteria and fungi community profiles, abundance and of course bench-testing of soil and water microcosms. But ... this is a piece of continuous work. Post your guesses of what we're doing and there's a prize of Michael Manefield latest #Microverse children's book for the closest to the pin! Great (free) present for your kids, nieces/nephews, grandkids ... or donate to your local primary school! Simon Grimes designed and built the kit - clearly drawing more from his part-time job of a cellarman whilst at Uni (than his ChemEng studies)! Btw - check-out Mike's other books at Micronovo - our Microverse educational business that's inspiring the next generation of microbiologists!

🌱 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫: 𝐔𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 🌱 For nearly two years, our pilot Harvest Food Forest at Rubona Public School has been transforming lives! Hear from the head teacher about how Harvest Food Forest project, run by Urban Rewild (that’s me!), has impacted the students, teachers, and the entire community. We’re aiming to raise $16,000 to establish food forests at two schools, but we’re only at $1,000 so far. If we can reach even $8,000, it would be enough to kickstart one school in Amboseli—giving us a solid foundation for the year! Every dollar counts, and 100% of donations go directly to the project. With rising food insecurity, especially as climate change hits hard in Africa, we’re teaching skills that these children can carry beyond the classroom. This isn’t just about growing food—it’s about growing futures. 🌍 Join us! Just $7 (the price of a coffee) can fund several seedlings and help us get started. Together, we’re harvesting hope and life skills for a sustainable future. Donate now and be part of the change! https://lnkd.in/gpRUrBnm Big Life Foundation WaterUps® #HarvestFoodForest #GrowHope #AmboseliSchools #Sustainability #Conservation #SupportEducation #waterups #Biglifefoundation

Help your students get into the giving spirit with websites and apps that help others. I will be sharing these digital platforms along with teaching ideas with the hashtag #DigiGift Day 1! Click for Paws! Read a short blurb about an animal in need then click for that animal to receive a donation. You could do this during a morning routine (a pet you save for the day). Choose a student to read the short blurb then all could say, "Click!" together as the chosen student clicks to give. Rotate who gets to click each day. https://lnkd.in/g2-Fzfdk #DigiGift

These numbers are testament to the power of the life science industry making an impact on more than health. It’s incredible to see the success of our collaborative philanthropy model—not only providing our 32 Nonprofit Partners with financial support, but also organizing volunteer manpower to further their missions—and to witness that what we can do as a collective is far more impactful on reducing the impacts of poverty on our neighbors. Thank you for all you made possible in 2024! #togetherwecandomore #lifesciencecares #biotech #pharma #giveback #donate #volunteer #endpoverty #careactively

Why donate to Alchemist CDC for #BigDayOfGiving? To support the Alchemist Kitchen Incubator Program! The Alchemist Kitchen Incubator Program (AKIP) provides regular and ongoing 1-on-1 support and coaching to put new food businesses in the best position to succeed. AKIP businesses meet regularly with Alchemist coaches and set goals, solve problems, and are connected to resources such as our discounted commissary kitchen. The AKIP program is open only to graduates of the Alchemist Microenterprise Academy and ensures all participants are fully permitted and in regulatory compliance. This provides assurance to retailers, customers, farmers' market operators, etc., and helps open opportunities that would normally be out of reach for new small businesses. We currently have 26 businesses participating in the Incubator and selling delicious food throughout the region! Read what Kasandra, founder and owner of Meza California, had to say about the program: "About once a week, someone new will tell me ‘Oh, I’ve thought of starting a food business, but…’, and I love telling them about Alchemist. The AMA program gave me a broad overview of what I needed to get my business going, and that scared me away for about 6 months, but I needed that reality check. Since I’ve been in the AKIP program, I have received weekly direct coaching, emotional support, and accountability, which gives me the confidence to keep building my business, the steadfastness to endure through discomfort and risk, and the mental space to still stay creative and excited as we grow."
