The rescue pole is OCN's most successful tool at the Walvis Bay Harbour. Seals are used to humans around them and they don't feel threatened by us and allow us to get close enough to cut them free with one quick motion. They usually mind their own business and rest or sunbathe next to the fishing factories. Their proximity to the fishing factories is also the reason why so many of the few seals in this area continue to get entangled - there is simply too much rubbish in the area. Fishing vessels come and go all day long, and many of them bring back fishing lines, packing straps, fishing nets or other fishing related trash. It only takes one loop of lost fishing line or packing strap to kill a seal, and we often see large amounts of this type of rubbish being blown into the ocean. #ocn #pollution #plastic #ghostgear #fishing #oceanconservationnamibia #sealrescue

Do you have certain water types that you prefer to fish? When you arrive at a stream, do you bypass the marginal water and go straight for the juicy stuff? Yep, we all do sometimes! And then we're somehow surprised that we don't catch as many fish as we'd like, or the best looking water doesn't produce at all. Why doesn't it produce? Because every angler passing by that same spot thought the same thing: "That's where the trout are." As a result, the best water often gets the most pressured. But the latest article on the website suggests a different approach. This article by DSFF contributor Justin Leidy discusses the benefits of fishing the "skinny" water that many others pass up. Read this and I guarantee you’ll add more trout to each day on the water, even on high pressured streams.
