Homelessness Week: Let's Make a Difference! This Homelessness Week, we are highlighting the challenges faced by families with children without stable housing. With a shortage of short-term accommodation and affordable rentals in our community, many families are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. What’s Happening? The lack of housing options is putting extra strain on emergency services and community resources. How is Anglicare NQ Helping? • Advocacy: Advocating for more funding and policy changes. • Innovation: Innovating services, how we respond to crisis in the community, and exploring alternative housing solutions. • Services: Supporting clients in finding and accessing housing resources. Together, we can work towards a future where everyone has a safe place to call home. #HomelessnessWeek #Homesforkids #HousingForAll #CommunitySupport

As the Executive Director of The Salvation Army Great Lakes Harbor Light System, I witness the heartbreaking reality of homelessness every day. These are real people—people who are mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters—who’ve lost their homes because they couldn’t afford rent, a medical bill, or survived a violent situation. For many, life’s circumstances became too much to bear, and now they are fighting just to survive. I do what I do because Christ’s love and compassion changed my life and gave me a purpose beyond my own. I believe we are called to care for each other, to love, forgive, and fight for justice for those who have little to no voice. Through God’s grace, I’ve been given a platform to serve, and with over 20 years of ministry experience, I use that platform to advocate for health, housing, education, and justice for our most vulnerable communities. Consider this: - 78% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, and that number continues to grow. - 29% of Americans can’t even cover their basic living expenses. - Nearly half of those living paycheck to paycheck have less than $2,000 in savings. One illness, one accident, one missed paycheck is all it takes for so many to lose their home. Homelessness isn’t a distant reality; it’s a struggle that could touch any of us. But there is hope. Together, through compassion, community, and action, we can make a difference. Before you scroll past, ask yourself: What if it were you? #EndHomelessness #ChampionForTheVoiceless #FaithInAction #SupportOurCommunities #LoveLikeChrist #DoingTheMostGood
It's easy to discuss the issue of homelessness as something abstract, but when we consider that the people affected are individuals with stories and lives just like our own, it becomes deeply personal. Asking "What if it were me?" brings the issue closer to home, emphasizing that circumstances can change in an instant for any of us. This shift from seeing homelessness as an issue to realizing it's about people—friends, neighbors, ourselves—can ignite empathy and action. How would you want others to respond if you were the person in need? #WorldHomelessDay #StarGospelMission #EverybodyDeservesAHome #BrighterTogether #CharlestonSC #FaithInAction #EndHomelessness #TransformingHeartsAndLives #SGMCares #HousingForAll

November is Homelessness Awareness Month, a time to step back and recognize the reality that homelessness can happen to anyone. Life is unpredictable, and sometimes, it takes only one unexpected turn to find ourselves in situations we never imagined. It’s not that people don’t care, but that homelessness can be a hard issue to look at closely—it’s often easier to compartmentalize or look away from something that stirs up so many emotions. Whether you’re a policymaker, a community leader, or a concerned neighbor, this month invites each of us to take a moment and face the complexity of homelessness. It’s not just about a lack of housing; it’s about support systems, opportunities, and our shared responsibility to build sustainable solutions. This November, consider reaching out to your local agencies or Continuum of Care (CoC) organizations. Ask how you can learn more, advocate, or volunteer.
The Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition extends its sincere thanks to Governor Laura Kelly for proclaiming November as Homelessness Awareness Month in Kansas. This recognition emphasizes the importance of raising awareness around homelessness and strengthening our commitment to those impacted across our state. Homelessness Awareness Month isn’t just about statistics; it’s about the real stories and struggles that Kansans experiencing homelessness face every day. This proclamation serves as a powerful reminder that we, as a community, can come together to create lasting change by supporting meaningful solutions. Throughout November, let’s elevate the voices of individuals with lived experience, learn more about the challenges of homelessness, and explore how each of us can make a difference. Together, we can work toward a future where every Kansan has a safe, stable place to call home. Thank you, Governor Kelly, for your leadership and commitment.

𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬. The numbers tell the story: Many people who are on the streets today were homeless when they were younger as well. So how do we stop the carryover effect of housing insecurity that stretches beyond the teenage years? We must start by preventing young people from ending up on a downward spiral in the first place. Our findings point to the importance of intervening earlier in life before there are significant problems. If we can steer young people away from the shelter system, we can chance the trajectory of their lives. #Attachment #YouthHomelessnessPrevention #RAFT #RAFT30thAnniversary

Supporting Homelessness Week: ADC’s Commitment to Change This Homelessness Week 2024, we want to shine a light on an issue that impacts over 120,000 Australians every night. While many of us take for granted having a roof over our heads, countless individuals and families face the harsh reality of homelessness, with nearly a quarter being children. At ADC, we believe in using our resources and influence to drive meaningful change. That’s why we are proud to partner with Homes for Homes and committing a portion of our development project revenue to combatting homelessness and delivering homes to those in need. Together, we are working to transform lives and create a future where everyone has a place to call home. We encourage you to join us in supporting this vital cause. Let’s spare a thought for those struggling and take action to change these statistics. Every effort counts, and together, we can make a difference. This week we're counting down the top 5 steps for Victoria to make the leap to a society that has ended homelessness. The best (and most cost-effective) way to end homelessness is to stop it from happening in the first place. And one of the key ways to do that is to prevent unnecessary evictions. In Victoria, the Private Rental Assistance Program, the Tenancy Assistance and Advocacy Program, and TenancyPlus are saving thousands of people from homelessness right now. But demands on these programs far exceed their funding. We need to increase funding to these programs to ensure they work as effectively as possible, saving Victorians from the trauma of homelessness and taking strain off the rest of the homelessness system. Adequate income support from the federal Government also has a vital role to play in ensuring households can meet their basic costs. What's been your experience with eviction-prevention programs? And what steps do you think are needed for Victoria to make the leap to a society that has ended homelessness? We'd love to hear your thoughts, using the hashtag #LeapWeek. #homelessness #endhomelessness #evictionprevention
