Tuberculosis is world's deadliest infectious disease 🌍 . 5M lives are lost annually to anti-microbial resistance alone and drug-resistant TB is a serious contributor to this. Yet we can (and must) do something. TB is preventable and curable. A new vaccine could save ✨12 MILLION lives & $3.2 BILLION✨ but UN member states must meet the TB R&D target they agreed to! See our new report co-authored with Results UK on how we can #EndTB 👉 https://lnkd.in/ehGW4eEG #YesWeCanEndTB

🤝 Last week, at the United Nations High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), world leaders adopted a new political declaration emphasizing the role of existing institutions and global partnerships—such as The Global Fund. By working together with international financing organizations like the Global Fund, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, USAID, Stop TB Partnership, Unitaid and others, we can expand access to effective antimicrobials, diagnostics and infection prevention measures—critical to combating the threat of #AMR. Centuries after the legendary Trojan War, UC researchers have drawn on one of the Greeks' most famous battle ploys to lay siege to the Hepatitis B virus - creating an assessment model that encodes the HBV genome like a viral Trojan horse. “One of the things we don’t yet understand is why some people get an acute Hepatitis B infection – which their immune system then clears, so that they recover – while others suffer from the chronic variety,” says Associate Professor xiaonan zhang. This stemmed from the lack of a model which could replicate both chronic and recovery situations. The model from Xiaonan and his team overcomes this challenge – it can replicate chronic infection and recovery scenarios. They're using it to help develop a cure, while also furthering a fundamental understanding of HBV infection. With 300 million people worldwide chronically infected with the Hepatitis B virus – and one million people dying from it every year – a cure can't come soon enough. Today, we stand together on World TB Day to raise awareness and unite in the fight against tuberculosis. TB remains one of the world's deadliest infectious diseases, affecting millions globally each year. This year's theme, "Invest to End TB. Save Lives," emphasizes the importance of investing in TB prevention, treatment, and care. It's a call to action for governments, communities, healthcare professionals, and individuals to work together to eliminate TB once and for all. Let's use this day to educate ourselves and others about TB, its symptoms, prevention methods, and the importance of early detection and treatment. By spreading awareness, we can help reduce the stigma associated with TB and ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare services. Together, we can make a difference. Let's commit to ending TB and creating a healthier, TB-free world for all. #WorldTBDay #EndTB #HealthForAll
