It’s Men’s Mental Health Month, and last week was International Men’s Day.
Yet, it seems to have gone almost unnoticed - or have I missed something? It’s mad, isn’t it? We see such huge awareness campaigns around mental health days and even things like International Cat Day, but when it comes to the fellas, the noise is… quiet.
In a world where social media makes it feel like more people are open about mental health, the reality suggests something much darker. Suicide rates in men are rising, and honestly, it’s not hard to see why.
We all have our struggles, but as a woman, I’m lucky to have an incredible network of fierce females around me. Different ages, backgrounds, experiences - yet we always have each other’s backs, and we loudly celebrate each other’s achievements. But men? Not so much. How often do you hear a bloke openly praise another? Hardly ever.
There are some amazing men in my life who I know I can lean on when I need support, and they know they can lean on me too.
There are some fantastic businesses in our community that I know are supportive, and others who are not quite there yet. I hear stories every day about bullying in the workplace, terrible cultures and the list can go on and on.
Success doesn’t have to come at the expense of kindness. So, here’s a little reminder for all of us: Let’s not wait for awareness days to shout about mental health. Let’s celebrate the men in our lives, support them, and be kind or at least try to be every day.
This Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re shining a spotlight on the challenges men face in balancing mental well-being with personal and professional demands.
At Favourite People, we understand how workplace pressures, societal expectations, and limited support systems can take a toll on mental health.
Our latest blog explores these challenges, offering practical advice for men to overcome them and highlighting how businesses can create more supportive environments. As recruitment consultants, we’re passionate about connecting talent with organisations that prioritise well-being, foster open conversations, and support mental health all year round.
Together, we can build workplaces where everyone feels valued and empowered to thrive!
