A lot of the work we do to grow women’s and girls’ participation in sport involves working with sports that have historically been mostly played by, and run by, men. One of the challenges that is regularly raised is how to infiltrate the ‘old boys club’, how to change perceptions of women and girls playing these sports, and how to drive change and create opportunities for women and girls. This week we're looking back at our blog post 'Changing perceptions of sports for women' and sharing some thoughts on how you can help drive this change. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Why not let us know in the comments below? #SportSister #Sport #History #OldBoysClub #Challenges #WomenInSport #WomenEmpoweringWomen

A deeply moving documentary, made a few years ago but still so relevant today. Who can define who is a “woman”? According to what criteria, and what legitimacy? Is a woman born with a high level of testosterone no longer a woman? What is “normality”? Do we measure differences in testosterone levels between men? Do we penalize people who are taller and have more muscle fibers than others? Is it a coincidence that the people targeted by the IAAF's discriminatory rules are mainly from Africa and Asia? This documentary is a reminder of the never-ending story of men's control over women's bodies. And of the courage of incredible women like Caster Semenya, Dutee Chand, Evangeline Makena, Margaret Wambui and Annet Negesa, who have endured public humiliation, wide-scale disclosure of their most intimate details and sometimes even extensive treatment or surgery to bring them back to “normality”. Caster Semenya took her case to the European Court of Human Rights, which ruled in her favor. Unfortunately, this has not yet resulted in a change in the regulations concerning “hyperandrogenic” athletes. The words of Payoshni Mitra, an activist for the rights of these athletes, sum up the situation perfectly: “When you are a man, and you do exceptionally well, you become a super-man. When you are a woman and you do exceptionally well, you must be a man”. A must see during the Jeux Olympiques Paris 2024 ● https://lnkd.in/dwAD-ecA

While sports capture our hearts and minds, it's vital for us as an Associate Sponsor to keep addressing the disparities that persist, especially in funding, sponsorship, and media coverage. 📺💰 We have walked this journey with Cricket South Africa as a sponsor for 10 years and have noted that in too many arenas, women athletes face unequal pay, limited resources, and a fraction of the visibility their male counterparts receive. This isn't just about fairness; it's about recognizing talent, dedication, and the sheer power of sport to inspire. We unearthed these and more with our Group CMO, Nontokozo Madonsela, who also provides the strategies that can propel women in sports forward with the right advice. #OneMoreFan can change the game. #SAWvsSRIW
