Across culture, “sportiness” is reigning champ. This year we saw Gen Z ditch nightlife for run clubs, and marathons become a cultural movement for the masses. New players are calling the shots of who gets to represent sport: British-Jamaican designer Martine Rose reinterprets British sports culture through a diasporic lens, Troye Sivan subverts locker room masculinity with queer codes, and #TaylorSwift becomes an unexpected broker between girlhood and jock fandom. Inside this Digiverse report, we explore how sportiness is being subverted in culture, why new fandoms are changing the game, and what’s next. #sportsmarketing #sports #sportspop #olympics

A lot of the work we do to grow women’s and girls’ participation in sport involves working with sports that have historically been mostly played by, and run by, men. One of the challenges that is regularly raised is how to infiltrate the ‘old boys club’, how to change perceptions of women and girls playing these sports, and how to drive change and create opportunities for women and girls. This week we're looking back at our blog post 'Changing perceptions of sports for women' and sharing some thoughts on how you can help drive this change. We'd love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Why not let us know in the comments below? #SportSister #Sport #History #OldBoysClub #Challenges #WomenInSport #WomenEmpoweringWomen

The dangerous thing here really is the fact that being labeled as trans, especially against your will (and against what's even happening), is being invited to discrimination and violence. The discussion of biological sex in sports is really calling for a discussion of sexism and bioessentialism in sports. This match escalated this way essentially in the premise that a 'real' woman can't hit that hard. Note - Khelif is by no means undefeated, she's just a world class boxer. This isn't rocket science to understand that until you isolate and observe variables independently, (not based in your eyes and socialization) you actually don't know what's going on or the effects. As more trans athletes are banned, it will be harder to do actual studies on results in a competition setting, which is the heart of the whole issue. Everyone's body functions slightly differently from the person next to them, but does it produce a consistent, even predictable, advantage? An article on the current thinking about testosterone limits for women with DSD, though I wonder what would happen if you just tested all women athletes instead of cherry picking when someone doesn't like how someone looks. Not advocating for that, but if you need a standard, then operate by a standard, not here say or speculation. https://lnkd.in/gGCFYPrH

Castor Semenya Serena Williams Dutee Chand Margaret Wambui Annet Negesa ….. and now Imane Khelif. Historically, the West has found many ways to deny the womanhood of Black women and other minorities, especially when contrasted with the tears of White women, and it’s f*cking exhausting. This is not about "protecting women in sports"; it's about protecting a very specific Western idea of what a woman is. Michael Phelps is often referred to as a "freak of nature" because of his disproportionate wingspan, double-jointed ankles, lung capacity twice that of an average human, and a body that produces half the lactic acid of a typical athlete. He is rightly celebrated as the greatest male swimmer in history. Meanwhile, female athletes with genetic differences specifically, female athletes of colour are legally discriminated against and harassed relentlessly. I also find it very strange that there is more outrage over a woman and her differences (that she has no control over) than outrage towards the literal r*pist Steven Van De Velde who is freely competing in the olympics. Shows where we are as a society. Sending all my support to Imane Khelif 🫂.

Since this really is a business platform and most of you are familiar with the word "costs". I can see where this hearing will take Womens Sports fast. Why fund two teams in any school if males really welcomed in women's sports? I'm not advocating this path however from a money management standpoint, a single team policy saves BIG money. I am advocating a return to the more recent traditional separation of male and females in sport. Where are the feminists? https://lnkd.in/gzTMVAD2

Women driving fast over here…literally and figuratively. 🏎️ It takes GUTS to race up Pikes Peak around those hairpin turns. I 100% believe you can’t fully appreciate a sport until you try it. To that note, I would like raise my hand to try it, preferably on a flat, straight, smooth surface… In the meantime, I can settle for cheering on these athletes with my team members at RBC Wealth Management #2025Goals
Some of our favorite sound bites from Women With Drive Pikes Peak hosted by WIMBA and Parity, and presented by RBC Wealth Management! 🏎️ Last month’s Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb featured 6 women drivers for the first time in history. In this panel, our speakers discussed how moments like these in women’s sports impact the larger sports industry and our society. 🎤 #RBCWealthManagement #WomenInMotorsportsNA #WomenWithDrive #ParityNow Samantha Schultz OLY Loni Unser Leela Srinivasan Meredith Chopka Kristina Kern Cindy Sisson Women in Motorsports North America

As a passionate advocate for women's football, I'm deeply disappointed and hurt by the lack of support and understanding from facilities like Powerleague. It's disheartening to see that women's teams are often treated as an afterthought, shuffled around from pitch to pitch without consideration for our needs. Or we are told we have to change our slot to accommodate someone else, when we have a long standing booking AND have to then defend our right not to be moved. On the choice of pitch… it is not just about logistics; it significantly impacts our confidence and sense of safety. A supportive and well-maintained environment is crucial for creating a positive experience for all players, especially women. It’s time for these facilities to recognise the importance of providing consistent, respectful, and inclusive support to women’s football. Women deserve to feel comfortable and valued in these spaces. We need more than just access; we need genuine care and recognition. Let's work together to ensure that all players, regardless of gender, can enjoy the game in a safe and supportive environment. I’m open to supporting this change. If you are a change maker or work at one of these facilities and value inclusive spaces, let’s be in touch and move towards better outcomes. #WomensFootball #EqualSupport #InclusiveSports #SportsFacilities #Powerleague #WomenInSports *All views express here are my personal thoughts

This campaign to encourage young women to stay in sport has raised quite a few conversations and concerns. It has had some negative opinions but personally I believe in the campaign. It has a deeper meaning. Bluebella have created a campaign with women’s GB athletes for a reason. It’s not about sexualising women, in fact quite the opposite. Classic societal stereotypes create a negative narrative that is the reason this campaign has been created. Women in sport have always had the perception of looking manly because they are strong, muscular or play a “man’s sport”. Sport is a place where men dominate and women don’t get the same representation. What this campaign is trying to highlight is that no matter the sport you play, as a woman, you can still tap into your feminine energy. It creates an argument that if male athletes were to do the same, which they have campaigns in their underwear, there isn’t the same judgement and negativity that women face. Men are seen as successful strong characters when topless but women are sexualised no matter if they are clothed or not. The campaign is portraying strong, determined women. That is a positive thing and should be celebrated. The campaign wants to encourage women and young girls to feel confident within themselves and love sport. The GB female athletes are wearing lingerie purposefully to grab the attention of society knowing it’s always been a negative or taboo subject, rather than something that is celebrated: being a women. Strong muscular women are often perceived as manly or not very feminine. Their success is often overlooked by the way they look. The purpose of this campaign is to switch that narrative and show that strong is beautiful and strong is feminine. Society needs to change their backwards attitudes and open their eyes to why this is such a positive campaign. Stop sexualising women being successful and confident in themselves. That’s why this campaign has been made in the first place, society pushes women down to feel worthless when there is so much to celebrate. A successful male athlete in a shirtless campaign doesn’t lose his credibility however, for women they do? Just goes to show that the societal views on women have not changed.
Did you see the recent “body positivity” campaign backed by 3 of the women’s GB rugby team designed to stop teen girls dropping out of sport? If not, you can see it here 👉🏻https://lnkd.in/eSY7BAgt The campaign shows these accomplished athletes practicing their moves in a series of racy lace bras, knickers, teddies and suspenders. Honestly, I’m lost for words. No, actually I have so many words I don’t know what to do with them. Since when did sportswomen in lingerie encourage teen girls to take part in sport?! Instead of sexualising incredibly talented women (again), can’t we choose how we feel and what exercise we choose to do despite what we might be wearing? What are your thoughts?
