Before the end of 2024, I managed to visit several projects that our WE-MA Engineering team had the pleasure of participating in. Below is the end of the assembly of the Trockner KTL installation. Our team delivered 💪 : - 👉 complete 3D planning of the Installation - 👉 ventilation planning - piping planning - 👉 Basic model of the steel structure - 👉 structural static calculations - 👉 workshop documentation of the steel structure approx. 80 T. #KTL #construction #WEMA #steelwork #piping #planing #projektierung #anlagenplanung #carF #Layouting #Layout #Tricad

Why is Baillie a great partner for structural weldments? If your drawing doesn’t yet have an engineering stamp, or you need some advice, we can help: We can offer suggestions for welding techniques and weld joint design: Typically, our suggestions concern making a weld joint configuration stronger or more cost-effective to produce. We can connect you to a structural engineer: Most structural weldments come to us through pre-engineered drawings. However, if customers do need engineering help, we have engineering partners that can evaluate designs to ensure they meet the correct standards. Find out more about structural weldments with Baillie: https://bit.ly/3XDT7al #welding #weldments

An important matter about steel structures is related to the connection between members. During the project activities, the engineers must pay an especial attention to: ❎ Fabrication. Before you specify a connection type, it is advisable to work together with the fabricator. Depending on the adopted connection, the fabrication process can be easy or not. Each fabricator has its own preferences. ❎ Erection. The structural design must take into account the erection tolerances and possible errors associated with the location of columns. ❎ Structural behavior. The design of the connections must be coherent with the structural model analysis assumptions. If you desire, for example, a beam-to-column flexible connection, you need to details members (bolts, plates, angles, etc) that are not able to transfer moments. The figure, taken from SCI P358 - Joints in Steel Construction: Simple Joints to Eurocode 3 (Steel Construction Institute), shows end-plate connections. Note that the beam-to-beam connection is composed by partial end-plate and certainly was designed to transfer shear forces for the primary beams. Did you find this post helpful? I would appreciate it if you could like, comment, or share this content. With your help, the information will be available to even more engineers. I hope to inspire people with my content!! Design per Industry Practice Designing a pipe system according to industry practice typically follows established codes like ASME B31.1 for power piping and B31.3 for process piping. These codes ensure that the system meets safety, reliability, and performance standards. Traditional design focuses on defining load cases such as sustained loads (dead weight, internal pressure), occasional loads (wind, seismic), and thermal expansion. Thermal stresses are generally handled by a combination of company-specific design rules and stress analysis methods, rather than a single analysis approach. This ensures a comprehensive assessment of how the pipe will behave under different conditions. Pipe supports play a critical role in managing loads. Whether resting on steel structures, concrete foundations, or supported by spring hangers, each support type ensures the proper distribution of loads and maintains system flexibility. Spring hangers, rods, and rigid struts are used to manage movement and restrain excessive deflections. Rigid restraints, in particular, prevent unwanted movements and protect against excessive bending moments. Thermal stresses due to temperature changes can deform the pipe and affect its flexibility. Internal pressure also influences flexibility; it can deform the pipe wall and stiffen bends, reducing flexibility. Stress intensification factors (SIFs) account for localized stresses at bends, tees, and other geometrical features, especially under sustained loads like internal pressure. These factors ensure that even with conservative assumptions, the pipe design can safely accommodate these effects over time. Newer design theories may incorporate advanced simulation methods or updated material properties, but industry codes like B31.1 and B31.3 remain essential references for safe, practical piping system design. foundation weld design calculation https://lnkd.in/g-q-tbDS In this calculation we are going to design FOUNDATION WELD CALCULATION, for that I am using following inputs (partial factor = 1.25, ultimate tensile strength=460 Mpa, effective length of side part of fillet weld=150mm, thickness of thinner connected part=21mm, width of the connected part=308mm). Foundation weld design calculation is a crucial aspect of structural engineering, ensuring the stability and strength of foundations in various projects. The inputs provided play a significant role in determining the adequacy of welds for withstanding applied loads and environmental conditions.
