Are we really talking Peak Season Prep already? The most wonderful time of the year is right around the corner. Just to be sure... We're talking Peak Season of course. One area that's often overlooked is returns and your strategy. Now let me tell you this. A well-executed returns process can actually drive profits and customer loyalty, even in this hectic time. 💡📦 You might be asking how, so let me break it down in this high-level overview. Set clear return policies upfront: ⇥ Transparency is key! Make sure your return policies are easy to find and understand [drop it in the footer]. ⇥ This reduces friction and sets customer expectations before they even place their order. Create a smooth returns process: ⇥ Digital, seamless, hassle-free returns are essential during high-volume periods. ⇥ Streamline the process with pre-paid shipping labels, clear instructions, and automated updates. ⇥ Customers appreciate a no-fuss experience and actually love your green, and labelless approach. Optimize reverse logistics: ⇥ Peak season returns can pile up fast. ⇥ Work with your logistics partners to ensure returned items are processed efficiently so you can quickly re-stock or refund. This keeps inventory flowing and minimizes stuck stock. ⇥ Data showing the expected returns per day is an extra perk your team will thank you for! Track return data: ⇥ Leverage data to understand why products are being returned. Are there patterns that can be addressed? ⇥ Reducing return rates starts with identifying the root causes. Offer incentives for coupons: ⇥ Instead of losing a customer to a refund, encourage coupons with incentives like free shipping or discounts on future purchases. This can turn a return into a new sale and even an upsell. Hopefully, you'll realize that a strong returns strategy isn’t just about managing risk, but it’s an opportunity to improve the customer experience and build loyalty. How do you explain Supply Chain to others!?
Founder of Let's Talk Supply Chain & Award Winning podcaster🎙 Inventor 🎤 Founder and Host of Blended Podcast | The Blended Pledge 🗞 Author "Fundamentals of Sustainable Supply Chains" and Trendsetter
When your package arrives on your doorstep, do you ever think about how it got there? When I was in Colorado, I remembered this quote by Dave Waters 💬 "Supply Chain is like nature, it is all around us." And it's so true. If you don't work in the industry, you might not realize that everything you use, from your morning coffee to your phone, was brought to you through a supply chain. An invisible network of manufacturers and distributers working quietly in the background to make sure products get to and from. It's an extremely complex and essential process that's so easy to overlook ... And just like nature, it's what sustains us. So, happy Friday to all the unsung heroes in supply chain. Thank you for keeping our world moving 🫶🏻 ----------- How do you explain supply chain to others? #supplychain #nature #friday

December. The New Year is just around the corner. And here we go again, playing the classic game: “Get everything done in one month.” To-do lists are piling up, stores are packed, and purchasing… Well, you get the picture — chaos. The usual story: • Suppliers delay deliveries. • Deadlines are tight. • And everyone’s running around asking: “Where was this when I needed it?” But here’s what I’ve learned: Holiday madness doesn’t have to dictate your decisions. This year, we’re taking a different approach to purchasing: • Planning ahead to avoid last-minute panic. • Prioritizing quality over quantity. • And remembering that the New Year will pass, but strong partnerships last. My advice: Make your purchases work not just for the holidays, but for success in 2025. P.S. Yes, holiday chaos is inevitable. But let’s be honest, staying one step ahead — even in December — feels pretty good. #BusinessStrategy #SupplyChain #Purchasing #NewYear2025 #PlanAhead #QualityMatters #HolidayRush

I'm having A TONNE of conversations at the minute with Online 'Big Box' Retailers who are either OVER or UNDER Selling delivery slots to customers, meaning....... 1. Unhappy customers ["we said we could do it butt we can't"] 2. Lost revenue ["we could have sold 20 more deliveries today"] Let me give you an example of why Descartes Systems Group is so passionate about selling vs. your actual delivery capacity. I used to deliver newspapers when I was a kid, the process consisted of the newsagent saying can you deliver to XYZ address tomorrow too and me mostly just grunting and shrugging 'yeah' (in this case I am the delivery team and the planning team)..... When I got to tomorrow I either realized .... 1. I start school at 8.45, how the hell am i going to make all these deliveries as they are all over the village and some are even to apartments (taking triple the time)..... 2. I get paid per newspaper i deliver, why the hell didn't I ask for more today, I could have bought some extra sweets as a result! Needless to say I kept making this mistake and as a result was either consistently late to school... newspapers to those homes in the farther reaches of the village went 'missing' and I probably lost out on the HUGE SUM of £15 a month as I under committed too. Moral of the story, check at the point of committing to a delivery that: 1. You can actually do it in the working day vs. your capacity constraints 2. It isn't going to cost you efficiency elsewhere 3. + Could you deliver even more than your perceived 'fixed' capacity! *caveat that is not me as you may have guessed!
