International Safe Places to Work Day is an annual event dedicated to celebrate organisations and individuals that eliminate fear and champion psychological safety in the workplace.
As the world economy continues to globalize; multicultural communities arise. Our TECHNIA community is here to help you break barriers together while celebrating technological advancements.
Here are a few examples of how to take part in ‘International Safe Places to Work Day’ and make human settlements and cities inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable:
🤝 Incorporate sustainable business practices, contributing to decent work and economic growth (Number 8 of the Global Sustainable Development Goals). Let’s promote an inclusive work culture by giving fair chances regardless of racial and gender differences.
✂️ 📋 Keep your desk clear: A comfortable work environment and clean desk policy promotes healthy interactions. Avoid sensitive business information being scattered on desks and important documents being too openly accessible. Instead, store crucial business information safely, or dispose of it securely.
♻️ Sustainable Digitalization: Counter social and business challenges to enable responsible product creation while improving efficiency with sustainable business processes.

Very interesting talk this morning as part of Tech week, on how we can and must boost innovation within New Zealand.
Andrew Fairgray made an excellent point about the expectation we can attract talent (back) to NZ -> when the cost of living is very high, accommodation is difficult and salary’s are not reflective / attractive. No longer is NZ a ‘great place to come home to’ if we are not going to be able to offer a vibrant (and affordable) place to live and innovative career opportunities.
Mike Horne when asked about how we can tailor how we motivate to the younger generations… he talked about how we frame the importance of working together in common space (ie: in office days) … it should not be only a conversation on work life balance, it is also about the benefit of learning and sparking ideas from others, this is how people new to workforce grow… the innovative process needs people working collaboratively and the best way to do this is side by side.
Thanks organisers for making this accessible for all.

Amazing news to kick off Monday. 👏
Reasons why I love working for IRIS:
✅ Work-life balance - fully remote work allows me to balance my work and home life
✅ The people - I work with some of the best people in the industry, especially the Marketing team
✅ No day is the same - IRIS is a fast-paced environment with lots going on, I could be creating a video one day and then getting my head stuck in reporting the next
What makes your place of work a great place to work??

🌟 Award or no award, I'm genuinely proud to be part of this Marketing & Comms team. I mean, why else would I take my Annual Leave and pay for my trip to hang out in BKK with people that I already see so often? Why would I PM a colleague's wedding for her?
🐣 I didn't tell a lot of folks this, but when I was first hired here (in 2021, semi-out of Covid era), I was pregnant with my second kid in my (very pukey) first trimester. I wanted to be evaluated -purely- by my abilities and skills, so with the two firms that I had gone for interviews with, I only told them about my pregnancy after I had cleared the interviews with my to-be direct supervisors, but BEFORE I signed the contracts. So essentially, they could drop me like a hot potato once they found out I was pregnant, before anything was inked in black and white.
One firm did, the other didn't.
The firm that hired me didn't treat me like I was handicapped just because I was pregnant. I mean, of course my colleagues were extra kind and helpful to a pregnant woman -- carry/ shift those chairs for you, hold the door a bit longer for you. But they know a pregnant woman can still work. Her brain still functions. She can still set up shop and run PR and vet stuff and clinch coverage.
This is an inclusive team that I'm in -- we're Chinese + Malay + Indian (not yet Others); we're halal + vegetarian + bak-ku-teh; we're Singaporeans + non-Singaporeans + new Singaporeans. We're a mish mesh of personalities, MBTIs, right/left dominant brain, introverts+ extroverts+ introverts who became increasingly extroverted.
We help each other, we share the load, we share our wins -- inside and outside of work. We're treated like adults who know how to manage our time and resources. If we have issues (which of course you'd have when you work together), we put our cards on the table and thrash things out.
You must've worked in places where you barely want to have lunch with your teammates, much less go on a self-sponsored holiday with them. I know I have.
But this, this is a team I am proud to say I am a part of. 💝

Proud to be part of a company shaping the future of work, not running from it.
We leaned into remote work over 4 years ago, and many things have changed.
We tripled in size.
We are approaching 80% fully remote team members (previously 0%).
We have team members in 33 states across the US (previously 1).
Almost every new team member I've talked to that has joined in the last few years, mentions flexibility as the reason for joining the company.
As we have gotten more and more distributed, we have had to work through new challenges. Instead of tucking tail and returning to the office, we are leaning further into the future of work.
I can't wait to see how far we can go on our road towards #engineeredflexibility!
