Wowzers! We're at Day 5 - and around 20% of the way towards full funding (which is about right if plotting linearly). Usually with the level of funding and backers on the project we'd have reached our minimum target, but this game is a little different, as we need sufficient backing to get the main outer box designed and printed - we know this costs more, and needs a bigger upfront print run - so we need around 500-1000 players to make this cost effective to do - hence the the much bigger crowdfunding ask. We wanted to be realistic. I love Kickstarter - it means if we don't reach funding levels, there's no commitment to create the game and backers keep their money. So it provides a great win:win for creators. No money = no project. (Also saves you creating something there's no audience for!) And for backers: No minimum funding reached - no money taken. The difference with this project, is that we know there's a big audience out there who LOVE stuff like this - so our challenge is to get the project shared enough to find our target market, as this market is slightly different to our regular game players. Not always just age but in business experience, they were first time founders early entrepreneurs. What happened was they were suddenly in charge of treasuries worth multiple millions and teams and investors and people and artists and all these things that they hadn’t faced at that level before. People talk about 2022 class of nft projects as “rugs” for too often but that’s not the right term! And it upsets me cause I stg we did not rug anyone with loser club or clay friends or invisible friends or whatever. I get so upset when people say that loser club or invisible friends were rugs. That’s not right. They are examples of entrepreneurs journeys embedding in the blockchain. They’re failed startups. They are NOT rugs. First off IF is still going. Not at the level but they are still there. Markus is still there. But losers failed. We failed in generating revenue, in team communications and dynamics, in getting over our heads and too ego driven and most certainly in managing large sums of money while having no clear path forward more than 3-6 months at a time. It was the www wild Wild West .com era vibes. These projects were real. The communities were and are real. The art lovers and the creators and artists are real. The teams were real! We wanted us all to succeed. It was truly a wagmi era. For better or worse. It failed, that was never the intention. It was the result of inaction and infancy entrepreneurship. So now what? Those of us still here, have we learned? Will this time be different? TBD I suppose. But I know personally I’ve taking accountability for my missteps and have taken note to not make those again. How I raised $25,000 for my unreleased Web3 game in 2021! here's how... Firstly building your #Web3 audience was way easier with all the WLs, Pre Sales, OGs and multiple other giveaways which secured a seat for your launch being at their peak! A potential project was judged based on the community and the followers it had, here are the top strategies I followed to make sure I didn't go bankrupt as a solo founder, - Building a 60,000+ following base on X (Formerly Twitter) - Collecting Interested Parties and Collaboration with them regularly! - Identifying previously established Tech Startups in Web3 and utilising their tool stack to build our backend (This builds trust and authenticity) - Launching a presale round with multiple project partnerships and a few KOLs to lead it! This got me some sales, some funds to keep the project going #bootstrapped, but what But what got me the #Grants and #Funds to keep the game going!? - #Networking and Speaking about the special tokenomics my project had (This was back in 2021, Now it's become less unique, coz I see a lot of projects with equally or better tokenomics) - Securing #BDs friendships and striking a deal with them for every successful grant they secure for me! - Having an Active #Community that would stand beside my fall! A huge shoutout to Karthik Subramanian and Mysten Labs for helping me through this journey once! When the right people see a potential project they will support, never lose hope or stop working on reaching out! People give up or become less energized once a couple of hundred outreaches fail, I did more than 2000+ outreach within 5-6 days on multiple platforms in a frenzy, travelling more than thousands of Kms through trains, flights and even buses to secure deals within a month (Biryani and Subway kept me alive) If you're not getting Funds, just means that you aren't reaching the proper Eyes! Once you do, it's your time. Take feedback, Be ready for changes in your plans but take it all on a positive note! Things will work out! Good luck 👍🏻
