The network's primary objectives include enhancing clearing and restoration practices, fostering the exchange of innovative techniques and knowledge, and creating a supportive community for these groups. By facilitating interactions within the network, the project aims to reinvigorate long-standing clearing groups and provide support for the initiation of new ones. Additionally, the project will also build on common approaches to data capture and monitoring, showcasing the collective impact of volunteer-driven clearing and restoration efforts. Ultimately, the network aims to elevate the contribution of volunteer groups in combatting alien invasives, a significant threat to the region’s biodiversity. #fynbos #fynbosforever #fynbospride #fynboscare #conservationcommunity #biodiversityconservation #30by30 #biodiversity #conservation #capefloristicregion #capefloralkingdom #tmfinthefield #alienclearing © Wild Restoration NPC

Happy #WorldMangroveDay! Mangroves are incredible ecosystems that: 🌊 act as a natural defense against coastal erosion and storm surges, 🐟 support rich marine biodiversity, and 🌳 absorb four times more carbon than terrestrial trees. The Nature Conservancy is proud to be a part of the Global Mangrove Alliance, an unprecedented collaboration that seeks to bring together NGOs, governments, scientists, industry, local communities, and funders towards a common goal of conserving and restoring mangrove ecosystems. If you work on mangrove projects or policy, we want to know! The Global Mangrove Alliance’s 2024 Stock Take Survey is an opportunity to identify and connect viable projects with funding and training opportunities and to measure worldwide progress towards 2030 goals. Available in 9 languages, the survey is for anyone around the world who works with mangrove projects, policy, research, or diversified livelihood projects and is open through Aug. 31. Wise words from Jane Goodall: "It's really important that we realize we are part of the natural world, and we depend on it.... We depend on healthy ecosystems. I know the forest ecosystem best, and its made up of a complex mix of plants and animals each with a role to play... All interconnected. I see it as a tapestry. And every time a species goes from that ecosystem, its like pulling a thread from the tapestry. If we pull enough threads, then the tapestry hangs in tatters and the ecosystem will collapse, and that's what's happening." Polesia, Europe's largest wetland system, is home to hundreds of bird species and feeds Ukraine's major rivers, like the Dnipro. In collaboration with Polesian institutions, FZS Ukraine is restoring five wetlands across Volyn, Rivne, Zhytomyr, and Kyiv regions, including the Chornobyl Radiation-Ecological Biosphere Reserve and Polissya Nature Reserve. This restoration is crucial due to mid-20th-century dehydration that decreased biodiversity, increased greenhouse gases, and degraded soil and water quality. Partnering with the Michael Succow Stiftung, FZS Ukraine selected sites based on various ecological factors. Each site requires unique restoration measures, and specialized teams will lead these efforts to ensure comprehensive wetland recovery. Experts from Chester Zoo are throwing a spotlight on conservation at the IUCN’s first-ever World Species Congress – a global event to inspire action for species conservation. 🌍 For the first time, conservationists from around the world are joining forces to highlight some of the planet’s rarest species and what’s being done to protect them to inspire everyone to do their bit to help reverse the current biodiversity crisis. 🌲 Join us at 11am on Wednesday 15th May as we champion some of the world's most threatened species. We’ll tell you more about how our experts care for native and exotic species, how looking at poo is helping to save Eastern black rhinos from extinction, and the impacts of palm oil on tropical rainforests, local people, and unique species like orangutans. Most importantly – we’ll highlight the everyday actions young people can take to help prevent extinction. #worldspeciescongress #conservation

Wanted! For the recovery of native woodland. Reintroduction of the grey wolf to the wildlands of the British Islands, specifically in Scotland, would, in theory, have a positive knock-on effect (called a trophic cascade). By helping regulate deer and other herbivore populations, the grey wolf would allow depleted landscapes to slowly recover their native woodland growth. Thus, one carefully monitored species reintroduction could support biodiversity, provide new nature services, and even alternative livelihoods to the human caretakers of the forests. This poster is 1 in a series of 3 talking about how the reintroduction of three mammals to the UK's ecosystem would have tremendous positive effects. Keep an eye out for the other two coming soon! #rewilding #sciencecommunication #conservationeducation
