Dynamic pricing can be one of the greatest tools available for optimizing supply and demand in order to avoid wastage and spoilage of perishable foodstuffs, for example. The value of a foodstuff identified with a festive date increases with proximity to the date, but the price increase must be accurately moderated or reversed to avoid excessive loss due to both having failed to sell by the festive date and the imminent expiry or best-before date of the product. This is one of the classic use-cases for dynamic pricing along with others such as airline tickets, concert tickets and so on which obviously have zero value when the flight has departed or the concert is finished. A more grey area is the use of dynamic pricing to optimize the seller´s margin when taking pre-orders for products which have not yet been produced. In my opinion, this should normally be seen as legitimate commercial practice, and it can work to the customer´s advantage too by grounding excessive optimism and greed by the seller - good market practice in short. The form of dynamic pricing that really needs to be regulated is that which identifies a specific client (for example via cookies) and establishes a different price proposal for that individual higher than that for another identified client deemed to have less disposable income. That tier system is clearly anti-everything that traditional western commerce represents and is related to social-justice type political agendas. This latter type of dynamic pricing which really needs to be controlled, seems set to be mandated by many government agendas internationally, and the concert-ticket scenario is the one to be regulated. Everything backwards and not in the interest of the consumer or indeed the producer!
