On my way to Proton City, Tg Malim for year-end stocktake this morning, I was listening to BFM’s discussion on Tackling Malaysia's EV Charging Challenge. The speaker highlighted several key points: 1️⃣ To meet the government’s target of 10,000 EV charging stations by 2025, Malaysia would need to install approximately 22 charging stations per day over the next year. 2️⃣ The need for a centralized center to streamline and expedite the approval process for EV charging infrastructure across different government agencies. 3️⃣ While the government has introduced incentives to support EV infrastructure development, such as the Green Investment Tax Allowance (GITA) and income tax exemptions for manufacturers, the speaker emphasized that more targeted incentives and streamlined processes may be necessary to accelerate progress. These insights underscore the challenges and collaborative efforts required to achieve our EV infrastructure goals. Beyond infrastructure, building a sustainable EV ecosystem involves: ✅ Providing more incentives for businesses to invest in charging infrastructure. ✅ Ensuring chargers are standardized and user-friendly. ✅ Conducting awareness campaigns to encourage EV adoption among Malaysians. ✅ Integrating renewable energy into the charging network. 4,800 kWh – that’s the approximate amount of electricity needed to power an average 4-room HDB household in Singapore annually. That’s also the amount of electricity M1 will conserve each year by installing solar panels at a single base transceiver station (BTS)! To date, we’ve installed solar panels at 8 BTS sites, with plans to add another 10 in 2025. Adding to this momentum, we’ve also implemented smart network management technology across our 4G mobile network, effectively reducing our 4G radio network electricity consumption during low traffic periods. This might seem like a modest start but we are taking significant, and committed, steps forward on this journey to do our part for Planet Earth – and we’re not stopping here! I'm excited about Blip Energy that I learned about through Pointe Angels EcoBee makes money from your utility company by limiting your access to air conditioning (a worse experience).  Blip makes money by enabling AC at peak times (a better experience). EcoBee has "saved" over 25tWh of energy by ticking up your thermostat when you're not there or it thinks you can handle it (ask me how I know). EcoBee makes about $1.5M-$2M per employee per year and was acquired by Generac in 2021 for ~$750M(pitch book). There are 8M new window AC units sold every year, call it 80M units operating at significantly lower efficiencies than larger condenser units. Importantly this market is completely untracked and untouched by the energy company currently, i.e DTE does not have a way to limit power to these units currently. DTE Energy you should reach out to Sophia to see how fast she can get these units in homes. Brent Dreaver we must have a ton of old homes in Grosse Pointe Park that run off window units; probably have 2k units running just in our city.

Australia is to start allowing cars to contribute to balancing power grids - Vehicle to grid (V2G). Germany and Europe would do well to move swiftly and decisively to do the same, to set the basics right now as the EV fleets and charging infrastructures ramp up, to leverage this enormous potential. As per Transport & Environment (T&E) latest study, this could add € 22 billion to the EU econonomy per year, saving tax payer money.
