Spotlight on the B Corp industry leaders 🌍 Capsule Insurance has just unveiled its list of the top 30 B Corps in the UK to watch in 2024. These remarkable companies span various industries and are making a positive impact on our planet. Among this year’s standout performers are two sustainable companies within the ProVen VCTs’ portfolio: Lucky Saint | B Corp™ and Social Value Portal. 🍻 Lucky Saint | B Corp™: An independent alcohol-free beer brand that joined our portfolio after securing a £10m Series A investment last year. 🌱 Social Value Portal: The platform for measuring and monitoring social impact, initially backed by the ProVen VCTs four years ago. Henry Philipson, Marketing & Comms Director at Beringea (the investment manager of the ProVen VCTs) and President of ESG_VC, served on Capsule’s B Corp 30 judging panel. He shared, “The B Corp 30 showcases impactful scale-ups driving growth and innovation; they’re a testament to what can be achieved through mission-driven focus.” Well done to all the featured companies, and a special shout-out to the two ProVen VCTs’ businesses. 🌍 We are proud and delighted to announce our successful B Corp™ recertification! This builds on our initial certification three years ago and allows us to stay with over 9,000 enterprises globally that believe business should be a force for good. 🌟 Being a Certified B Corporation® means that organisations have to evidence and demonstrate their systems align to the qualifying standards but even more so, a commitment and accountability for operating with the highest standards of social and environmental responsibilities and impact. It is a rigorous process and rightly so, one which we've always been dedicated to being measured against. The B Corp process addresses five essential areas: Governance, Workers, Community, Environment, and Customers. With each recertification, companies must demonstrate their commitment through rigorous standards and a minimum score of 80 points, proving responsible practices in areas such as sustainable resource use, fair worker compensation, inclusive and transparent governance, and environmental stewardship. With a score of 112.6, we’re proud to have raised the bar even higher as we continue to improve, evolve and diversify. Our journey with the B Corp movement began in 2021, and our original certification score of 99.7 was a proud milestone. This latest score reflects our ongoing drive to excel. This achievement also comes after a challenging year, where we encountered some obstacles yet stayed true to our mission for greater sustainability, transparency, and resilience. This was also the year we developed our first spin-out, ARC. A Regenerative Culture., through which we’re supporting other organisations on their sustainability journeys. This initiative significantly contributed to our increased score, demonstrating our commitment to an impact-driven business model. 🌱 At People & Transformational HR Ltd, we have based our ways of being not on four simplified words that represent our values; but on eight principles. Prosperity over Profit, Justice and Belonging and Energy and Wellbeing being just three that symbolise our openness, devotion and intentionality. This recertification strengthens our pledge to embed purpose in every facet of our operations, staying true to our mission: better business for a better world. Our micro-enterprise stands alongside a global community of over 9,000 businesses, and in the UK alone, we’re one of over 2,000 companies, united with purposeful brands such as The Guardian, innocent drinks, Patagonia, Bambino Mio®, HappyPorch, Happy Ltd, Neo | Best for the World B Corp™, The People Experience Hub and many others. A huge thanks to our team, our Visiting Transformers, Spiritual Investors, and all our partners and community for inspiring us to be our best and helping us work towards a sustainable, inclusive future for all. Here’s to another chapter in using business as a force for positive change! #BCorp #BCorpCommunity #BetterBusiness #PurposeDriven #PeopleAndPlanet B Lab UK

“Running a successful business is difficult, delivering real impact is difficult, delivering both at the same time is extremely difficult” Not all companies were born purposeful. For many, particularly heritage brands, becoming purposeful is a journey. Big organisations tell us they want to act purposefully and achieve impact but don’t know how to move from strategy to action. They’re stuck. We created our Impact Maturity Scale to help kickstart those difficult conversations. Everyone’s journey is different and it’s by no means a linear one. But you need a way to benchmark where you are compared with where you want to be. Hear as we chat to Simon Burckitt and David Schfield about from Aviva about where they feel they are on this journey. https://lnkd.in/g8nfvF47

CEOs and business owners - no, you don't have to. BUT! If you're reading this, you probably have read my previous posts about how private companies, and not only listed corporations, can also profit from #ESG implementation. All right, by now you know how each of three #ESG components, Environmental, Social and Governance contribute to the ability to open new revenue streams, increase profitability, attract and keep the best employees and become investor-friendly. You have also seen why all these three components are interconnected, influence each other and should be treated as a single package to really profit from the #ESG implementation rather than three independent objectives. But how to go about the actual implementation? "#ESG is very complex, but it can be started with some very simple steps", said an entrepreneur / investor and a big #ESG fan, Callum Laing. The McKinsey study of numerous companies suggests these three principles for the #ESG implementation. *** Get specific *** Different people may take some of the options very personally. It’s therefore important to choose a few #ESG projects with the broadest support of your organization (employees, partners, suppliers and, of course, the customers). For some it can simply be a monetary contribution to an honorable cause, while for others (e.g., mining or tobacco companies) it can be tightening the community ties. *** Get practical *** “Saving the planet” is a very noble cause but it won’t work as a company objective. #ESG initiatives must be measured as any other KPIs and need to be directly tied to the value-creating objective the company already pursues. It’ll be much more effective to have employees focus on output per electricity use, waste cost per employee or per plant or revenue per calorie for a food/beverage business, for example. Analyze which metrics may have the greatest impact opportunity, experiment and adapt if necessary and be transparent and publish the results. This brings success faster and also increases the trust of all stakeholders, including investors, in your endeavor. *** Get real *** Let’s be realistic. #ESG implementation may go wrong, or, in the best case, may create short-term destroy shareholder value. Ed Stock, the CEO of the American sports goods retailer Dick’s Sporting Goods estimated that his announcement of limiting the gun sales will reduce his turnover. He was right, the sales went down by $150 million (less than 2%). BUT, within a little over a year the company stock climbed 14%! Be prepared to (short-term) failures and blowback, be transparent, stay on course. You, as a CEO, are the ultimate leader who can guide your company on the rewarding #ESG implementation. I hope that now you are ready to start your #ESG journey. Not because you have to, but because you believe it’s worth it for your company. It may not be easy. But you’re not alone – your advisory board / board of directors is there to assist you. Do good, do well and enjoy! #NED
