Each year, approximately 1.7 million Americans are affected by sepsis, and a staggering one-third of patients who pass away from sepsis, had it during their hospitalization. This highlights the urgent need for effective strategies and interventions to combat this life-threatening condition. In 2023, Hoda Asmar, MD, MBA, chief clinical officer, reported that our care initiatives aimed at decreasing sepsis mortality saved an estimated 1,250 lives. Our updated procedure incorporates a standardized order set for blood tests, fluid resuscitation, blood pressure management and the critical step of early antibiotics within one hour of sepsis identification are key parts of our approach to saving sepsis patients lives. 🌟 QI Week - Exciting Update on Our Deteriorating Patients Programme! 🌟 🔍 Phase 2 Focus: Sepsis 🔍 Did you know that Sepsis affects at least 245,000 people in the UK each year, with up to 48,000 deaths annually? Those who survive often face life-changing after-effects. Sepsis is a severe response to infection that can cause organ dysfunction and claims more lives than many well-known diseases combined. Our Acute Areas are working together on improvements in training, communication and practice to ensure the early identification and treatment of sepsis to enhance patient outcomes. Teams are using the Sepsis Six Pathway to support the delivery of timely, life-saving care. Stay tuned as we continue to drive change and improve patient care across the Trust! 💙 #QualityCare #patientsafety #HealthcareExcellence #SepsisAwareness #continuousimprovement #teamwork Solent Academy of Research & Improvement

Did you know that sepsis is the third leading cause of death in US hospitals? Today, one in five deaths is associated with sepsis, a complex and extreme condition that is difficult to diagnose and even harder to treat. This underscores an urgent need to improve recognition and prevention efforts worldwide. Stay tuned this #SepsisAwarenessMonth as we examine the challenges posed by sepsis, the consequences it has on patients and providers, and actionable steps that healthcare professionals can take to improve sepsis diagnostics. Sepsis kills more people than heart attacks and stroke combined and yet we have no dedicated in-hospital sepsis response teams. MI and stroke patients have a dedicated team that arrive at their bedside within minutes and sepsis does not. Also in need of out patient sepsis clinics that GP's can refer patients on to that are at higher risk of developing sepsis for closer monitoring. Time to invest in sepsis if we want to see results. #sepsis #prevention #notrocketscience #realaction #resources

🌍 Today, on World Sepsis Day, we are reminded of the silent killer that claims more than 11 million lives each year—more than cancer and heart attacks combined. Sepsis is a preventable condition, yet it remains a major threat in healthcare globally. 🚨 Sepsis does not discriminate. It can affect anyone, anywhere, and at any time. It is a medical emergency that arises when the body's response to infection causes injury to its tissues and organs. And yet, with timely recognition, early intervention, and proper management, sepsis is entirely preventable. 🛑 THE CHALLENGE IS CLEAR: We must ACT FAST. This means raising awareness, promoting early diagnosis, enhancing patient safety protocols, and prioritizing education for healthcare workers and the public alike. The cost of inaction is too high. We cannot afford to lose more lives to this condition. Let's unite to ensure that sepsis is recognized, treated, and, ultimately, prevented. Together, we can make a difference. Let’s save lives. #WorldSepsisDay #PatientSafety #SepsisAwareness #Healthcare #SaveLives Global Sepsis Alliance

Every minute matters in patients with severe hemorrhage....as true in the ER, OR, PACU, ICU and L&D as it is at point of injury and during transport. #MinutesMatter #EmergencyMedicine #TCCC
"The battle against time begins when the bleeding starts." - Randall Schaefer, DNP, RN, ACNS-BC, CEN In patients with severe hemorrhage, every minute of resuscitation delay increases mortality. With LifeFlow, one unit of blood can be delivered in 2 minutes. Learn more: https://ow.ly/Eytk50Sk81H

Whether it's thrombosis, infection or phlebitis, these complications can have serious consequences for patients and healthcare providers. Yet we keep using the same materials and expecting different outcomes. AVI catheters, using a first-of-its-kind material featuring MIMIX® technology, have shown significant reductions in failure rates and fewer complications in retrospective clinical studies. What if you could confidently rule out sepsis for patients who present to your emergency room? A peer-reviewed analysis involving 1000+ adult ED patients with signs or suspicion of infection demonstrated that IntelliSep has a 98% NPV for sepsis– which may allow care teams to rule out sepsis and explore alternative diagnoses in low-risk patients. 📌 Access the Academic Emergency Medicine article here to learn more: https://lnkd.in/gsevVKfD #EMResearch #EmergencyCare #SepsisManagement

It’s sepsis awareness month! Throughout my over 20 year nursing career care has evolved from the ER to the ICU. Despite so many advances, we still haven’t slayed the sepsis dragon. 🐉 One thing that has not changed is a top concern for providers caring for septic patients…”is my patient PERFUSING?” Add using hemodynamic parameters to your critical care practice to manage sepsis & assess perfusion (it is in the guidelines 😋). We owe it to our patients to ensure they SURVIVE SEPSIS using every tool in our toolbox. 🧰 #sepsisawareness #hemodynamics #perfusion #cardiacoutputmonitoring #nurseeducator
