Today is 10th of Muharram 1446 (Islamic calendar, also known as day of Ashura). On this date, Hazrat Imam Hussain (grandson of Prophet Muhammad SAW) was martyred alongwith his family members and companions in Karbala. As I reflect upon his story, three significant lessons come to my mind, which are also applicable in practical and professional lives: 1. Standing for Justice and Truth: Imam Hussain's refusal to pledge allegiance to Yazid, whom he viewed as an unjust ruler, exemplifies the importance of standing up for justice and truth. His sacrifice underscores the principle that one should not compromise on core values and beliefs, even when pressured by powerful forces. 2. Sacrifice and Courage: The willingness of Imam Hussain and his companions to sacrifice their lives demonstrate that true bravery involves standing firm in one's convictions and being prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good and for the preservation of moral integrity. 3. Perseverance and Faith: Despite knowing the odds were against him, Imam Hussain remained steadfast in his faith and purpose. It teaches us the value of unwavering commitment to one's principles and the strength that comes from deep spiritual conviction.
