EU Member States commit to cooperating on world-class quantum technologies Twenty-one EU Member States have committed to collaborating on quantum technologies, signing the European declaration during a conference organized by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU. Recognizing the significance of quantum technologies for EU's scientific and industrial competitiveness, signatory countries aim to develop a world-class quantum technology ecosystem across Europe. The conference, held within the framework of the quantum flagship initiative, facilitated discussions among industry, academia, and governments on deeper collaboration in quantum research and its role in the global tech race. The quantum flagship, launched in 2018 with a budget of at least €1 billion over 10 years, aims to achieve quantum computing by 2025 and has published a strategic research agenda to guide future developments in quantum technologies.

Austria has officially signed the European Declaration on Quantum Technologies! This declaration, first outlined last year, establishes a strategic cooperation between EU member states to promote quantum technologies, and a commitment to cooperate in developing a European world-class quantum technology ecosystem. Austria has long been at the forefront of research in the quantum field. By signing this declaration, it is committing to continue supporting the commercialization of the technology and the transfer of knowledge from fundamental research into innovative products and services. Our Co-CEOs Wolfgang Lechner and Magdalena Hauser commented: "In order to keep Europe at the forefront of quantum computing, collaborations between all member states are essential. By signing the European Declaration on Quantum Technologies, Austria is now also promising to take the necessary next steps to strengthen research and the economy in this area. South Works, Chicago was home to one of America’s major steel production plants back in the last century. D-Wave Quantum Inc. (@dwave), a leader in quantum computing systems, software, and services, will participate in the Quantum World Congress 2024 from Sept. 9-11 in Tysons, Virginia. Allison Schwartz, D-Wave's global government relations and public affairs leader, will contribute to a workshop titled 'Quantum & Sustainability' on Sept. 9. Dr. Andrew King, a senior scientist at D-Wave, will participate in two panels: 'Country Showcase: The Canadian Ecosystem' on Sept. 10 and 'Quantum Advantage: Deciphering the Timeline, Pathways and Implications' on Sept. 11. Twenty one EU Member States have now joined the European efforts to make Europe the “quantum valley” of the world by signing the #Europeandeclaration on #quantumtechnologies during a conference organised yesterday (the 22nd March) by the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU. Through the declaration, first launched in December, the EU Member States that have signed so far recognise the importance of quantum technologies for the scientific and industrial competitiveness of the EU. 📯 The "Core Days" of the Munich Quantum Valley Annual Meeting 2024 in the small town of Eichstätt have come to an end. This year we again had a strong presence with the Fraunhofer IIS with research teams from our sites in Erlangen, Nürnberg and Fürth. 💡 Our researchers are part of to two of the core consortia of the Munich Quantum Valley, contributing both to the hardware and software development of the quantum computing stack. The last three days served, besides networking and reconnecting with friends and colleagues, on delivering status updates from within the consortia. 👉 The Fraunhofer IIS is part of the SHARE (K6) consortium (Scalable Hardware & Systems Engineering) and pursues two main goals: the development of electronic components and systems for future quantum computers, and semiconductor technology and integration for functional and scalable quantum computing hardware. See https://lnkd.in/emuD3KSP 👉 Furthermore, three research groups of the Fraunhofer IIS contribute in different ways to the QACI (K7) consortium (Quantum Algorithms for Application, Cloud & Industry). The focus of our research teams here lies on the investigation of techniques for optimizing quantum circuits and compilation methods to improve the efficiency of existing and future quantum computers and algorithms. This requires the development of new classical algorithms and the enhancement of existing tools.
