Understanding the Different Classifications of Busbar Trunking Systems Busbar trunking systems are a crucial component in electrical distribution, offering a variety of classifications based on their functions. Here’s a quick guide: What are the different classifications of Busbar trunking? The Busbar trunking is classified into several categories as follows: Division , by function: It is divided into three types: 1. Service Trunking Run: This is used to transfer electricity from the transformer to the main panel. The distribution is horizontal and there are no Tap-offs. 2. Feeder Trunking Run: This is used to transfer electricity from one panel to another. Typically, the distribution is horizontal and there are no Tap-offs. 3. Distribution Trunking Run: Also known as the Plug-in Type, this is used to distribute electricity over a specific area through Tap-offs mounted on it. Typically, the distribution is either horizontal (Horizontal Trunking Run), vertical (Vertical Trunking Run), or a combination of both. There are types with currents ranging from 40 to 160 amperes used for direct lighting unit feeds (Lighting Busbar Trunking system) and for electrical devices through plugs.
