After 15 companies and research institutes worked on the project for around three years, the innovative solutions intend to contribute to sustainably improving safety, efficiency & cost-effectiveness in road construction and maintenance. www.strabag.com On October 1, 2024, a window to the future of road construction opened on the A9 motorway between Graz and the border with Slovenia. Fully autonomous asphalt paving and self-driving barrier pylons with object recognition: As part of ongoing renovation work on the A9, the STRABAG competence center TPA and its partners in the EU-wide research project InfraROB (9/21–3/25) have successfully tested part of their newly developed automation technology in practice. Overall, the innovative solutions are intended to contribute to sustainably improving safety, efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the construction of roads and their maintenance. A total of 15 companies and research institutes from eight countries have been working on this

The Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link is set to be the world's longest combined road and rail tunnel connecting Denmark and Germany when it opens in 2029. The tunnel will be constructed in massive 73,000-ton sections, each roughly half the length of the world's biggest container ship. These sections will be carefully positioned under the seabed, creating a new route for cars, trains, and freight. Once complete, travel times between Copenhagen and Hamburg are expected to be just 2.5 hours by train, compared to 4.5 hours today. This interesting article delves into more about the engineering and construction behind this marvel.

Wuppertal wonderful suspension railway, running since 1901!! In more than 120 years this engineering marvel has carried millions of people and... an elephant! 🐘 The remarkable suspension railway in Wuppertal, Germany 🇩🇪 , is a stunning feat of engineering that was inaugurated in 1901. Its creator, Eugen Langen, proposed the idea of constructing a railway suspended over the river Wupper as a more convenient option to traveling on the congested roads of Wuppertal. The majority of the railway's route runs above the river Wupper, while other parts of the journey are elevated high above the bustling main roads. The cars are suspended from a single rail, which is positioned below a massive supporting steel frame consisting of 486 pillars and bridgework sections. At both ends of the route, specifically at the Oberbarmen and Vohwinkel stations, the two-car trains navigate through enclosed, tightly-curved tracks before re-emerging on the opposite platform. It's truly remarkable that such a marvel of engineering was envisioned and constructed over 120 years ago. What are your thoughts on it? And do you know when it carried an elephant?
