Evgueni Tarkhanov presents in his lecutre the recent research at Fraunhofer-Institut für Angewandte Polymerforschung IAP in the field of scPLA fibers, produced by melt spinning and subsequent posttreatment. The achieved tensile fiber properties, which are close to the range of technical PET fibers, allow an optimistic forecast for the ongoing developments of PLA-based monomaterial composites reinforced by scPLA fibers. Further, the presentation covers the developments in the field of scPLA fiber-based monomaterial composites and the realized production of recycled scPLA fibers by application of thermomechanical recycling approach. 💡 ♻ Waste processing never gets boring! #pv #recycling During the experiments, the work is similar to a combination of a "treasure hunt" and an "escape room" - with a good amount of #science and a pinch of adventure. ⚙ 🔬 🔍 😊 The tension of starting out, wondering if the machine likes the #photovoltaic waste - is it going to reward us with a smooth process, or does it have other plans? 📣 Exploring Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy for Efficient Scrap Metal Sorting ⚙️ Industry : Chemicals & Materials 📍 Country : Germany 💡 The Fraunhofer Institute, in collaboration with Cronimet Ferroleg GmbH, has been exploring the potential of laser technology in the recycling industry. The focus of their research is on the use of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) for the sorting of scrap metal. This technique, which involves the use of a laser to vaporize a small portion of the material and then analyze the resulting plasma, can identify the chemical composition of metals in a matter of seconds. This rapid identification process can significantly improve the efficiency of sorting and recycling processes. In the technical aspects, the LIBS system uses a high-energy laser pulse to create a plasma on the surface of the material. The light emitted by this plasma is then analyzed by a spectrometer, which can identify the elements present in the material based on the wavelengths of light emitted. This process is not only fast but also non-destructive, meaning that the material being analyzed is not damaged or altered in any way. This makes it a effective tool for the recycling industry, where the accurate sorting of materials is crucial for efficient recycling processes. #LaserTechnology #RecyclingInnovation #LIBSSpectroscopy #SustainableManufacturing — ✅ This is one of the 582 circular solutions (from 52 countries) available in DICES. #inspiration #eyeswideopen

Novaya is pleased to announce we will be working together with two institutes of RWTH Aachen University (Thermal Processes & Emission Control in Waste Management & Recycling (TEER), RWTH Aachen University & ANTS https://lnkd.in/eksUi5tr), the chemical company Synthomer and recycling firm REMONDIS Recycling for a new project: REFOAM. The project is funded by VolkswagenStiftung for four years starting in 2024. ♻ With this project, we aim to recycle foam mattress waste. To achieve this, we have to look into three aspects: ✔ How do we separate different waste-derived foams ✔ How do we recover recyclable materials? ✔ How does latex foam become circular? Through sensor-based characterization, advanced sorting techniques and thermo-chemical recycling, with a particular focus on pyrolysis of latex foam, the consortium wants to demonstrate the technical feasibility of resource recovery. #refoam #novayacomfort #recycling #lovehomefabrics #latexco #artilat
