I just finished the Pearson EdTech Symposium on AI, and it so happened that at the same time, I was also completing the two-week Effective Higher Education Teaching Workshop, under the expert guidance of Paul Dölle. Both were packed with insights. I am constantly reminded that for effective teaching, we must start by teaching ourselves first, and this learning should last a lifetime — lifelong learning is part of our jobs. As for AI, it's taking a front seat in education, even though some still try to ban it. I stand for cooperating with AI, as it can deepen the learning process, improve how we set student tasks and foster critical thinking. But at the same time, it demands higher skills and competencies from us as educators. Events like these are exactly what helps us develop those skills effectively.
Pearson ED.tech Symposium was issued by Pearson North America to Yana Sokolova.

What if the key to improving education is getting staff and students to learn together? 🤔 🌟 Enter the UCL ChangeMakers Project 🌟 A staff-student partnership where we collaborate as equal partners on projects to improve learning and all-round student experience - sounds amazing, right?! I'm excited to be working with Myles Harris on a project exploring all things AI and how that might be impacting our critical thinking skills, especially for higher-level assessments. The big question is: Will AI help or hinder our critical thinking skills? Between now and the end of June we'll be exploring this questions together, helping to make sure higher education can adapt to the changing tech scene. I can't wait to share the findings later! For now ... what do you think? Is AI helping or hindering your critical thinking skills? ⬇ #education #technology #criticalthinking #research #innovation

Just presented on a panel that actually empowered students. It was a 9-Person Think Tank Discussion for the Human Intelligence Movement. 3 of them were students. They were constantly given chances to enter the conversation and share their perspectives. (Kudos to them!) This is exactly what we need. We need discussions that actually put students and educators front and center, not endless lists of AI/EdTech CEOs who really just want us to but their product. Here are 2 other observations about the Think Tank: ► People actually disagreed! It wasn’t one of those discussions where everyone says they’re on the same page and basks in our own awesomeness. In the discussion and the Zoom chat, people constructively pushed against one another. ► We talked a lot about the systematic problems with changing education. (I thought it was a little too focused on blame, but that’s ok!)

🌟 Excited to share a powerful new collaboration between Chipp.ai and Northern Illinois University to tackle a major challenge in education: reducing student dropout rates with the help of AI! 🌟 In partnership with NIU, we’re using Chipp.ai’s AI assistants to provide tailored support to students, helping them stay on track and engaged in their education. Here’s how: 📊 Data-Driven Insights: Our chat logs gather patterns and identify at-risk students early on, flagging areas where additional support is needed before it’s too late. 🧭 Personalized Guidance: Through AI-driven guidance, students receive personalized resources, reminders, and encouragement based on their unique academic paths and challenges. 🤖 24/7 AI Support: With AI assistants readily available, students can get answers, resources, and support whenever they need it, reducing frustration and fostering a sense of belonging. By proactively addressing the factors that often lead students to disengage, we’re empowering NIU to keep more students on the path to success.

Absolutely love this summary! 2024 in review: a year of growth, impact, and connection. Translating AI complexity into cultural wisdom has been my guiding mission this year, particularly in education. The response has been humbling: • 95 posts • 1,127 reactions • 180 comments • 1,571 followers But beyond the numbers, it’s the conversations that matter. Whether it’s redefining AI’s role in higher education or ensuring technology enhances human connection—not replaces it—this year has reinforced a key truth: AI in education isn’t about replacing human connection—it’s about enhancing our ability to meet each student where they are. Thank you to everyone who engaged, shared insights, and pushed these ideas further. Here’s to an even more meaningful 2025! What are your reflections as we close out the year?
