Please ignore the noises in the background and listen to the message. Last week Thursday I attended a remarkable program by @unwomen to kick off the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. It’s a global campaign aimed at raising awareness, fostering advocacy, and driving actions to eliminate all forms of violence against women and girls This video highlights the event which took place at the @un_nigeria House. We delved into the realities of gender-based violence, its devastating impact on individuals, families, and communities and explored strategies for prevention and intervention. This campaign reminds us that the fight against gender-based violence is not a task for women alone. It requires a collective effort from everyone men, women, organizations, and governments to create a world where safety, equality, and dignity are upheld for all. As we engage in these 16 days of activism, I challenge us all to Educate ourselves and others about the signs of gender-based violence and ways to support survivors. Speak out against harmful norms and behaviors that perpetuate violence. Collaborate with local organizations to amplify efforts toward ending gender-based violence. Together, we can build safer communities and ensure that no one is left behind. Let’s commit to this journey of advocacy, awareness, and action not just for these 16 days but every single day. Let’s take action and amplify our voices to advocate for the change we want to see. Welcome to the 16 Days of Activism. The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that takes place from 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (International Human Rights Day). For this year's campaign, we're platforming three different stories of Hope in Action in the family and gender-based violence sector. These three stories will be told by: ⭐ Starlady (Zoe Belle Gender Collective (ZBGC)) 🎤 Feifei Liao (Multicultural Centre for Women's Health) 🏉 Tess Stewart-Moore (GenWest) Tune in for our first story, live tomorrow. Tania says, "working to end family and gender-based violence can be tough, all-consuming work. We have all watched with dismay this year as the number of women killed continues to tick upwards. Each and every one of these women deserved a long and happy life, and we know that there are more deaths and severe impacts that are not fully reflected in this number, including the impact on children. This year's campaign is linked to the ongoing theme ❝UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls.❞ Our focus this year is on raising awareness about gender-based violence (GBV) and promoting societal change through media outreach, community involvement, and discussions on cultural norms that perpetuate violence. CEHURD stresses the need for a united front against GBV to create a safer and more equitable society. 16 Days of Activism: A Call to Action for a Violence-Free Future As we observe the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we are reminded that this global campaign is not just about raising awareness—it's about sparking real change. From November 25th, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10th, Human Rights Day, we come together to stand against violence in all its forms, to amplify the voices of those affected, and to take collective action towards creating safer, more equitable societies for all. While the 16 Days of Activism provide an important moment for reflection and action, we must remember that the fight against gender-based violence is year-round. We all have a role to play in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and advocating for change. The Safegaurding Team Poplar HARCA have been focusing on raising awareness across the business. They’ve put posters up across centres and will be hosting a lunch and learn next week to speak about this important topic. Thanks to George Phidia, Sharma Begum, Farzana and Simona for all the great work you do with victim survivors all year round. Collectively, we can help advocate for change by reading, sharing and shouting about the urgent need to end gender-based violence. You can support by raising awareness as the first step.

🌍 Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, launching the United Nations UNiTE campaign which is 16 days of activism from Nov 25 - Dec 10. This global movement calls for action to end violence against women. In 2024, the campaign highlights a stark reality: Every 10 minutes, a woman (regardless of age) is killed. #NoExcuse. At ERA, we stand committed to breaking the silence that surrounds elder abuse, which often contributes to its persistence. The #16daysofactivism is usually not just a commemorative days for me, it’s an intentional and united call to action. Its a reminder to: - Bring conversations about gender- based violence into every home, community, office, churches. Talking about #genderbasedviolence creates awareness and offer survivors opportunity to seek help -Teach girls and women consent, respect and how to challenge harmful norms -Equip girls and women with skills and information to make the right decisions -To remind partners, donors, leaders, religious and everyone that ending GBV requires collective actions. Along with special holidays and #celebrations we also have a responsibility to create awareness and advocate for those who cannot and who may not necessarily want to be sharing in such joyous celebrations. Today marks the commencement of the 16 Days of Activism Against #Gender-Based Violence for 2024. The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an #annual global campaign dedicated to raising #awareness and driving action to #eliminate violence against #women and #girls. Starting on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and culminating on December 10, Human Rights Day, this initiative emphasizes that gender-based violence is a critical #human rights violation. Globally, millions of women and girls experience #physical, #emotional, and #economic #abuse, often within environments that should offer safety, such as homes, schools, and workplaces. This violence not only undermines their #dignity but also limits their ability to participate fully in society, perpetuating cycles of inequality and poverty. The campaign serves as a powerful platform for #advocacy, uniting individuals, governments, and organizations to challenge the social norms and systemic inequalities that enable gender-based violence. It also emphasizes the need for legislative reform, survivor support systems, and community-driven prevention strategies. Participation is essential.
